I was just thinking... Do we want to see more of him? So far in New Who we've seen him one episode "School Reunion" and a cameo in "Journey's End".

Classic Who fans - How often did we see him in the olden days? Is it worth bringing him back for a few more stories?

Only if he can fly up stairs like the Daleks can now.

K9 appeared more-often-than-not between The Invisible Enemy (1979) and Warriors' Gate (1981). He wasn't in every story, though: Power of Kroll is set in a swamp and has no K9 (he's sink). City of Death was largely filmed in Paris, and it wasn't economical to take the little tyke with them.

After he was binned off in Warriors' Gate, they tried to give him a series of his own, explaining that Sarah Jane was sent a K9 in a box by the Doctor. The series "K9 and Company" only ran to a pilor episode, "A Girl's Best Friend", which is a real hoot but it not really anything to base a series upon.

K9 got a scene early in The Five Doctors, warning SJ that she's in danger (which she was, of course). He cropped up in a couple of new series DWs, and every-now-and-then in the Sarah Jane Adventures.

K9's got his own series now, in which he can indeed fly. I haven't seen any of it though.

I don't see him returning: he's done his bit for the new DW, and the new DW has helped promote him in order to make the Aussie version of K9 a realistic goer.

I can't see the plotline of Sarah-Jane with K9 going to Gallifrey, meeting Leela and K9 with the now returned President Romana and K9 being made anytime soon. Although I'm sure John Leeson would be up for it!

Bearing in mind the RTD "rainbow agenda", wouldn't a new K9 have to be ...... just a little bit camp ?

I'd rather like to see K9 pop up in the series again- don't know if it would work having him in every episode, but the odd one would be nice. Maybe the Doctor can dog-sit for Sarah Jane

As opposed to the original? Whose characterisation was famously based on John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

K9 can come back for a story any time he likes as far as I am concerned. Maybe Eleven will meet him soon though! But I haven't seen any spoilers except that

Spoiler
Jo Grant is coming back!

No no no no no no no ! No more K 9 in Dr Who. Whilst I quite enjoyed his appearence in school reunion I was glad to see him trundle off with Sarah Jane at the end. By the way, how did The Doctor re-build him, wasn't he blown to bits ? I suppose that as this is now 3rd (?) version of K9 The Doctor must have a machine in the Tardis that is programmed to churn them out when required. That being the case why doesn't he have one of his own ?

Fourth - one for Leela, one for Romana, one for Sarah Jane and another one for Sarah Jane. I take it you're not interested in my idea for a The Four K9s story? (a time scoop will be needed, possibly with E-space capability.)

Presumably he hasn't got one because he tired of him. Maybe after a few decades the novelty wears off But a new story wouldn't necessarily need a new K9 or an existing one to have been invited aboard. (*crosses fingers* sorry andy1231).

..... I sorta saw K9 as maybe more Montgomery Clift ...........
chuffnobbler
02-10-2010
Montgomery Clift! Not a comparison I ever thought I would see anyone making ...

Clift was very handsome and brooding. Kind of sulky and pained. K9 doesn't fall into that category really. Clift was sexy as the troubled priest in I Confess (underrated Hitchcock), but K9 has never been sexy.

Neither were butch though ...

Then, maybe, K9 would be better seen as a sorta "mechanical Jack Hawkins" ?

K9 wouldn't be K9 if he was anymore different....as that spin-off show in Oz proves!!!!!
