Sky Sports on BTV WHEN ?
All this hype about being able to watch SKY Sports on BTV, then when it comes down to it apparently some digital transmitters cannot support the new channels on freeview including mine (Mendip). I must admit I feel a little bit let down as I was looking forward to watching the Ryder Cup, Ashes etc. BT cannot confirm when this service will be available I guess because it is out of their hands. Does anybody know the transmitters where SKY Sports is available or is this a big white elephant?

Hello.
Mendip's commercial multiplexes switch from "pre-switchover" configuration to "post switchover" configuration on the 28th September 2011.* You will need to retune your box to continue receiving some Freeview services. You will receive Sky Sports 1 and 2 from this date at the latest. *Pre-switchover configuration: 16QAM 2k, bandwidth 18mbps (approx) Post-switchover configuration: 64QAM 8k, bandwidth 24mbps (approx) The extra bandwidth allows for Sky Sports 1 and 2, plus another as yet unnamed service. Why are Mendip's commercial services still in pre-switchover config even though switchover has occured? Until neighbouring transmitters have undergone switchover (Oxford is here the main culprit), some of Mendip's services can't move to final frequencies and powers. If the config was changed on the temp frequencies and powers, it would result in the signal being less robust with a lower coverage area. Oxford undergoes switchover stage 2 on the 28 September 2011 freeing up Mendip's final frequencies. Viewers receiving from Wenvoe should note that a retune is needed on the 27 April 2011. Some viewers in Somerset may also be able to receive Sky Sports via the Stockland Hill transmitter. Various threads exist on this subject in the Freeview, Technical and Top Up TV subforums in the terrestrial section. Information on dates sourced from Digital UK. Hi
I have checked again with BT whether I could get SKY Sports I confirmed that I was on the Mendip transmitter but may be able to swith to Wenvoe or Stockland Hill. In fact when tuning my tv I have the option to choose the Wenvoe transmitter if I wish. BT asked whether I could receive cbeebies/channel 5, I confirmed that I could plus the total BT sports channel, which I obviously can't watch until I subscribe? They said that it looked likely that I could get SKY Sports I however I do not want to commit to a Vision basic package for one year if it turns out that I cannot get SKY Sports. I would welcome any comments or suggestions on how to move forward? |

Just take the time, date and full name of the advisor you are speaking to. And the agreement number. Simples! |

When signing up to a 12mth contract make it CLEAR that if you cannot receive Sky sports you will be cancelling it and want a full refund of all monies.
