Desire HD Stock Delays!

Those who have, or plan to order from Expansys may have already realised but they've changed their stock date!

Gone from the 11th to the 17th now, adding a further 6 days to wait for their customers.

Not sure if this is an Expansys only issue or if there's a general delay on stock. I'm suspecting that such an anticipated handset will have some shortages...

play .com has said released on 11 October 2010 all along

If this is true it's not good news for those hoping to buy sim free or those buying from places who sell the sim free handset with a contract (as in places like Expansys and Mobilephonesdirect).

We all know the sim-free Desire HD has been delayed till end of Oct so i thought i'd do a little update on the various websites selling the phone and what dates/prices they have.

Amazon UK: 25th Oct - £469.99
Play.com: 19th Oct - £469.99
Expansys: 19th Oct - £499.99
MobileFun: 19th Oct - £459.95
GumMobile: 19th Oct - £469.99
Clove Technology: Late Oct (no date) - £469.99
Handtec: Late Oct (no date) - £459.41
SuperETrader: Mid to late Oct (no date) - £469.99
Mobilephonesdirect: Allow 25days for delivery (no date) - £499.00

I know it's been reported the sim-free HTC Desire HD delay is due to Google testing, personally i think that's BS. I think the real reason there's a delay till the end of October is down to Vodafone's exclusivity with the Desire HD on contract.

When you think about it how can the sim-free handsets not have passed Google testing when obviously the contract handsets must have? It doesn't make sense. Vodafone are apparently getting the phone on the 14th which is next Thur and the rest of us will be getting it 2 weeks later, 29th Oct onwards.

I was hoping to get one before I went on holiday. Now I will just wait till I get back. Not in a rush to get one. They will definitely be out by the time I get back.

The delay is believed to be affecting all handsets, not just sim free handsets. Whether that's true or not we shall see. When the 14th gets here let's see if any Vodafone customers get their Desire HD or if all suppliers get their 'go ahead' before this date.

Yes and no, it was originally on sale by Amazon direct and my order I placed is still showing it's estimated dispatch is the 11th. It sounds like they have sold all their allocated stock, but I've emailed them to find out whether mine will be dispatched on the 11th or delayed.

I'm gonna wait till it's out, one because I will be doing a number port and don't want my sim with my number and communication method sitting in some warehouse

By the way, the Mobile Phones Direct seems to be a good deal, I am considering the £35 for 18 months T-Mobile deal. It says 14 days for delivery - is this normal or just because it's not out yet.

And I may consider the Z as the HD seems a bit of a big screen compared to my iPhone - does anyone know if I can bring up the on screen keyboard as per the desire if I don't fancy popping out my flip out QWERTY keyboard?

Dear Mr *********************

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk regarding your order for "HTC Desire HD Sim Free Mobile Phone".

I am sorry for the confusions caused due to estimated date assigned for this order #******************

I would like to confirm that these estimated dispatch dates are incorrect. Though the dates are longer than expected, we would make sure that the order is dispatched and delivered before the dates specified.

We build our catalogue on information from many sources and our ordering system automatically estimates dispatch and delivery dates for each item. We need to know of any errors in the ordering system, and customer feedback like yours helps us to continue to improve the service we provide.

I have checked your order and can see that this item is on pre-order and will not be released until October 25, 2010.

Please note that the release date is subject to change. As soon as we are informed of any changes to this date, we will update the website accordingly.

We will do everything we can to ensure that your order is shipped and delivered as efficiently as possible.

We will receive this item from our suppliers in time for the release date. On the date of dispatch, we'll send you an e-mail message confirming the date, contents and method of delivery. As per our standard policy, we do not charge you for an order until the time of dispatch.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this regard and thanks again for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

I'm also going to do this, but more to do with wanting to actually see one physically before I get one. I'm a little sceptical still about how much of a jump from my Desire this will be.

I spoke with them on the phone today. The woman on the phone said they had been instructed to tell people that it's currently 28 days waiting time due to the hold on shipping of the device. She couldn't explain why the website said 14 days but stated an email was going out to all pre-order customers today to tell them of the delays.

Yep, you certainly will if you shop at 3rd party suppliers. You'll also have the benefit of making sure it's not bug riddled as is sometimes the case with new handsets and you'll know for sure what the full spec and features are from other users.

A big thing for me is will the GPS be as good on the HD as it is on the original Desire. Something I use a lot and wouldn't want to loose. I guess it's something else I can wait to see...

Thanks, I'll play the waiting game then, it's not as if the deal will go away and no similar ones will crop up. The faster processor and the 8MP camera are the biggies for me, be a step up from my Iphone 3G

It's my fault, sorry.

I called Google and explained that my upgrade wasn't due until November and that I didn't want any of you lot getting the Desire HD a month before me. So they agreed to delay it for me

hmmmm I just wish we knew what was going on and where the best place is to order it sim free and actually get one in the next week or 2.

I don't want to wait until mid November, that's a joke as it was meant to be out in a couple of days.

I agree mate, it's a piss take being so late. I ordered mine today as I was told that the contract and number port wouldn't take place until after dispatch. So I requested my PAC code from GiffGaff, had a reply with it included (that's what you call service!)

I emailed them before hand and they said they expected to ship within the next fortnight, when I came to order it said please allow 22 days. So fingers crossed it will go through before my PAC expires!

More info on the delay and it seems to affecting both HTC Desire HD and Desire Z.

Still putting the blame down to Google testing i see and saying end of Oct. I suppose we'll find out next Thur when we'll know if Voda have sent HTC Desire HD's out to their customers.
