Took a lot of tracking down, a ridiculously long lunch break and a lot of 'networking' smiles and jokes to get one put to one side in a CPW branch for me.

Glad I did though, the Amazon situation is crazy! You would think (well, I did at least) that a company with their buying power would have some pull in getting some stock to fulfil their pre-orders at least.

Very very disappointed with the Amazon service this time

Last Sunday (24 Oct) I tried every phone shop in sleepy Bracknell and hardly anyone had heard of the HTC Desire HD let alone had stock. I tried 3 and they had stock. I asked how much for handset only and it was £449.99. The transaction was completed in 2 minutes.

My HTC Desire HD from 3 is unlocked and with no 3 branding and after putting in my Vodafone SIM it instantly picked up all the Vodafone APN settings and I was on the Internet immediately.

Thanks for the tip! I just popped into the Farnborough store and picked one up for the same price, unlocked also! It was the last they had of the second delivery, the guy said the second batch of the original Desire was locked so he couldn't be sure that this would be, but I spotted they had a 14-day money-back guarantee anyway.

I just bought one from them today and it was unbranded and unlocked. The box was generic HTC, the model name on the label reads "HTC Desire HD A9191", "P/N 99HLZ001-00".
