Just as an FYI Voda data has gone down as of today, instead of 1gb and 500mb for discounted they're based on tariff cost.

For MI tariffs
£15/£20 = 250mb
£25/£30/£35 = 500mb
£40/£45 = 750mb + 5mb roaming
£60 = 1gb + 5mb roaming

A few other permutations but that's the gist of it

Cheers,
Jon

Got a link to that? Does that change for everyone now? If so that is pretty shit. My desire will be getting 250mb then.

It's only for new customers as of today, word came out yesterday. Here's the full table

T Mobile is looking good at the moment

Yea, but for many of us t-mobile could offer 100 gb and we still wouldn't get a signal.

I was going to leave o2 for vodafone on the strength of having 1gb of data - on an iphone you can quite easily tear through a gb. I guess for HSPDA coverage and data allowance only 3 is left.

People should start leaving Vodafone in droves.

That's like BT limiting phone calls to 20 minutes a day, while charging the same price. If rival companies offer the same service, but unlimited and cheaper, then surely, they won't survive, no matter how big they are at the moment.

At the very least, they're going to get a very, very bad reputation. Remember Skoda's reputation in the early 90s? If Vodafone aren't careful, they could end up killing themselves.

They will struggle to attract new customers with the new plans. Lucky for me last month I got a text from voda saying I was close to my 500mb limit so I rang voda to see how close I actually was to the limit, the lady was really helpful and asked if I had a iPhone and offered to up my allowence to 1gb at no extra cost. Probably a different story if I rang this month.

Oh well once my voda contract is up i will be off, had my Vodafone contract over a decade. Data allowance is more important to me than voice and text

Consider t-mobile too, their hsdpa coverage matches 3.

Or indeed any other smartphone.

3 actually increased my limit mid-contract. (from 500MB to 1GB). Hopefully their network will cope with the eventual mass exodus of heavy users.

This reminds me of what the American networks are doing. They are all really clamping down on their customers data use. It's not good at all. I will stick for Orange for now until their coverage drops when they start switching off some masts as part of their merger with T-Mobile (knowing my luck they will leave the T-Mobile masts on which have rubbish coverage where i live).

I think it is the ordinary customer who doesn't have a clue that will be taken for a ride by unscrupulous sales staff.

I've stood in shops and listened to the sales patter and on more than one ocassion wanted to but in and tell the customer the reality.

Most of us on here know what we are looking for from a deal and will haggle or move until we get what we are looking for.

Earlier on this week, I heard a guy in an orange shop tell a potential customer, that he doesn't know anyone who goes past 500meg a month data use, and even if you had your iPhone connected to the internet 24/7 you wouldnt exceed 500meg, only if you were connected to youtube.

I rarely use youtube, but still exceed 1.5 gig a month.

That's not the plan any more, they will be consolidating staff like duplicate payroll, legal, etc etc etc, but they are not planning to reduce the number of masts.

I believe this is because data usage is increasing so much that they are going to keep the same number of masts, however they will be moving. That's what I read recently.

The physical network will be changing for sure, no point them having two masts covering the same area

Yes changing, but there aren't plans to reduce the number from what I read recently.

Over the whole country the number might be staying static, but in areas the number will fall. In other areas the number will increase

Just making the point that you can't say they will not be removing masts in any posters area

And yes I am, really got up in a foul mood today
