hello ladies and gents

i just collected my first iphone - a shiny new iphone 4 and i have to say i love it.

here where your expertise comes in - i want to be able to message my Dad from my home in the Netherlands to him in the UK - ive been told toget a free messaging programme to do this without paying but theres seems so many out there!

could anyone be so kind as to offer some app names that they may have used - i need something simple as my dads 60 and is just getting used to his iphone 3g!

thanks ever so much, i appreciate any help you can offer

try ping chat you both need to have this installed also turn push notifications on in the program, with this you can send txt messages pictures and videos - (limited to 10 seconds i think) for free via the app. its free on wifi and 3G data

have a look at this website it enplanes what its all about http://www.pingmessaging.com/Ping!/Ping!_FAQ.html hope this helps

I personally stay in touch with people far away using WhatsApp Messenger. It's free and unlimited to use once you all buy the £0.59 app. Works for iPhone, Blackberry and Nokia smartphones. Well recommended

Be careful though. Don't use 3G when you are using these Apps otherwise the overseas data charges will be horrendous. Switch all data off and just use a wifi connection.

Dutch prepaid simcards are a joke.

sorry - just to clarify - i live in the Netherlands so i have a Dutch contract with T-mobile - my Dad is on O2 in the UK.

I want the free messaging app as its pretty expensive to message a non dutch phone....

Ajax - your right, prepaid cards are shite here, to be honest the contracts arent great either:

My Dutch T-Mobile contract: 29.95 euros per month, 150 texts, 150 mins and unlimited internet.

vs.

My Dads UK O2 contract: 35 pounds per month, 3200 mins, 3000 texts, unlimited internet.

i think its just that mobile phones arent as big a part of life over here as they are in the UK....

anyway once again thanks for the replies everyone - i appreciate it
