Hi tough-ref, I know you have very good intentions & mean well but Channel 4 claims they won't answer an email for a month or more.

So my own suggestion is to CALL Channel 4. And ask to speak to an executive who's in a decision-making capacity - not merely a PR type person. Explain that you're calling in behalf of a large Internet community who wants to see BB5 USA aired & wants to know where things stand NOW. Take the initiative. Be proactive. Be decisive. Don't merely settle for the an ambiguous answer.

I got my answer in 3 days.

The 30 day thing is an easy get out clause. It is there MSA (maximum speed of answer which is regulated by ofcom) but they will answer a lot quicker where possible.

Anyway, I need help from someone. I have downloaded Ircle so i can download th shows from the alt.binaries, but I am confused I dont understand how to set it up!!! please help. I have looked at every page on the alt.binaries site, but all it says is once you've read the help pages as in the help channel.

I dont know how to connect so I cant get into the help channel.

Off topic I know, but does anyone have an NBC equivalent link of the CBS link we have for BB USA? I just want to watch some NBC online.

You are getting confused. Ircle is for IRC not newsgroups. alt.binaries.multimedia is a newsgroup and can be accessed using a newsreader.

If you install Xchat rather than Ircle I am happy to help you. I am a linux user and use Xchat so I'm not familiar with Ircle. Send me a Private message and I'll talk you through the whole lot.

Ok, I have downloaded it. The only reason I got Ircle is cos someone told me to, in a previous post.

Let me know what I need to do know.

Ok once you have installed Xchat set it up with your nickname etc then follow the instructions as per this post:

Once you have done the registration stuff you can join #survivor-central channel by typing:

/join #survivor-central

If you get errors saying you ned to be registered you will need to identify yourself with the following:

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY password (password = the one u were emailed)

When you join the #survivor-central channel type the following trigger:

/ctcp slants !reality.tv

Once you have sent the trigger you should get a popup chat window, accept this and you will get a private message window from the bot.

Type the following:

dir

cd BIG BROTHER 5

dir (you will see the episodes that the bot holds)

For each episode you want type: get filename e.g.

get big.brother.501.pdtv-lol.avi (for the first episode)

You will mostly likely be placed in a queue. The file will then be sent to you when your turn comes around. A window will pop up on Xchat and you will be asked to accept the file transfer.

If you will be away from the PC it may be worth turning on autoaccept files from the IRC menu in Xchat so that it will automatically be received when you are away from the PC. This option is up to you, depending on your internet security paranoia levels. Mine is permanently left on autoaccept and I'm on IRC 24/7 but then again being a linux user I don't worry too much about being sent viruses. Its up to you, being a MAC user you are less vulnerable than a windows user. If I were you I'd go for the autoaccept option.

You need to accept the offer then another window will appear. Its in the new window from slants where you do the dir stuff etc.

Try turning on autoaccept chat from the IRC menu or from the Window menu select direct chat. You should be able to accept it from there.

I dont have an autoaccept chat option in the IRC menu, I have got the other option tho so have used that.

I get as far as entering the file name and then after a little while i get

One minute remaining before DCC auto-close.

Then in 60 seconds it closes.

Is that normal, is it cos of the time of day????

Yes that is normal, just stay in the channel and leave it for a few hours. You may be waiting a good few hours depending on how long the queues are. If you have autoaccept files on it should receive the file no problem. The best way to test you have something queued is to try to get another file. If you already have one queued it will tell you that only one at a tijme is allowed.

When you queued the file it should have told you your slot number in the queue. If it did or tells you you already have one queued you've done it correctly.

You could try asking for help in #help. Let them know what client you are using and that you have a mac. For convienience you really need to have auto accpet on and working unless you are glued to the screen. The geocities link on page 3 goes into more detail but that is for MIRC only.

I may do a guide for the newsgroups later on. Someone on alt.binaries.tv.big-brother is consistently posting captured footage from the live feeds. The majority of it is evening footage which is a plus because thats out of bounds during uk time

I don't have the auto accept facility. I have searched thru all the menus and cannot find it.

I have left Xchat running after submitting the filename. it was running for around 3 hours. I figured this time of the morning was probably better to try. but nothing.

After the message about one minute remaining, the listing in the DCC chat list for Slants changes to Failed.

In the chat window it says DCC CHAT to Slants lost. Remote host closed socket.

Again, is that meant to happen?

I assume u are using Mac OSX...

do a search for xchat.conf (in linux this is found in /home/username/.xchat2/xchat.conf)

and change the dcc_auto_send value from 0 to 1 e.g.

dcc_auto_send = 1

This should turn on dcc autoaccept. If this line does not exist create it.

Failing this, try another IRC client. I don't understand why you don't get this option though in your menu.

You said you waited 3 hours. You could well be waiting way in excess of 3 hours especially at a weekend. I queue mine before I go to bed at night and they are normally completed by morning.
