Every time it comes on the radio the station is switched over. The song is Layla, it's overblown ,self indulgent and boring in my opinion, plenty of others will disagree, but I can't stand it.

Any others?

Don't Stop Believin' - it does my head in.
Flashdance - turn it over as soon as it starts

Name me one person who considers 'Flashdance' a classic

For me 'Wonderwall' a moronic, tedious dirge which really grinds my gears.

And 'Chasing Cars' - ditto.

I assumed that as it gets a lot of radio play it was. Maybe it isn't then

Rolling Stones ~ Symphony For The Devil.

&

Nirvana ~ Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Both are Noisy and Irritating Rubbish.

That could be another thread, which I will add Brown Eyed Girl, by Van Morrison , he has made much better records than that , but that's the only one that seems to get played.

American Pie.

As soon as I hear " A long long time ago" I instantly switch off in my mind. If I am in control of the radio - it goes off.

I'd agree with those choices. Hate them both, tho I love most of The Stones output. I think the problem I have with Sympathy is that awful rythm track running through it.

Some classics I can't abide are -

Waterloo - Abba. I love ABBA but this song make me feel ill.
All Right Now - Free. Bores me to tears.
Maggie May - Rod Stewart. Leaves me cold, can't see the appeal for the life of me.

What's the game exactly? Seems I'm the first one here to proffer Sweet Child O'Mine. When I hear the intro I just think Oh God here we go, 4 minutes of infathomably overrated screechy shite.

I agree, does nothing for me. I agree with the poster who mentioned Robbie Williams' Angels. I don't understand what's so great about it.

Layla has a nice intro, but like most pop songs hardly anything musical happens after that.

Radio 4 made a programme recently about Layla and Majnun, ''said to be the most beautiful poem in the Arab world' and the inspiration for Eric Clapton's seminal pop song. What a laugh. There's something seriously the matter with our culture .

Not available to listen again atm but here's the BBC page.

I've cited Angels elsewhere and will do so again. Musically it's nothing that hadn't been done a million times before, and if you actually listen to the lyrics they are not very coherent; just simplistic, quickly-thought-up rhyming couplets to pad out a vague theme, calculatedly designed to appeal most to the emotionally not very literate. I bet Raoul Moat loved it. Also, it's unfathomable success had the enduringly tragic consequence of propelling Williams' musical career into the stratosphere.

'Come On Eileen' - Dexy's Midnight Runners.

Guaranteed to make me switch a station over. I'd rather listen to 'Geno' or 'Show Me'.

I'm with ya Sue, that song and sound wore out its welcome rather quickly

Police - Every Breath You Take
... plodding and earnest ballad with little of the nuance of their other hits

Fun Boy Three featuring Bananarama - It Ain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It
... I like the original Ella song, just not the way that they did it.

I'm with Lou on that one.

I could also cheerfully go through life without ever hearing the opening sax riff to George Michael's Careless Driver, er Whisper again. I realise it's a highspot in the minds of millions but for me it presages five minutes of sheer unalloyed misery (unless I can reach the radio tuning knob in time)
