No doubt he'd be in the final. He is good looking, nice, confident and can dance. So now it's who is going to be in the final with him?

Ah yes, but if he's too good too early on, he won't have the all-important 'journey' aspect!

I do like him though, and couldn't believe how good he was tonight.

Did they think he was most at risk by having him wear brown kecks?

Yes but then we were saying the same thing about Austin and Cherie and Ali/Ricky.

It's a long way to go yet and we've only seen half the celebs dance.

Matt made a very strong start to the competition though. Probably the strongest Cha Cha a male celebrity has done on week one.

He will never win if he wears ridiculous clobber like he had on tonight. What on earth was that about? I wonder why he didn't wear a Blue Peter badge to top it all off!

I thought he looked rather fetching in that waistcoat.

About as much sex appeal as cold toast.

Being good in week 1 is usually a Dooming ticket, sadly. The GBP like a "journey", and they usually don't start with week 1 goodies.

(Having said that, wasn't Chris surpisingly good in week 1 last year?)

I thought he was the likely winner as soon as the couples were announced. He fits the Strictly winner profile perfectly. Tonight just added to my conviction. I'll be interested to see how his relationship with Aliona develops though.

No. He cannot do a sexy latin. Paul Daniels is more sexy: doing latin

I beg to differ

He's one of many with potential imo. And we've only seen half of them!

I actually like cold toast!

Apparently Aliona said on Radio 5 Live that he was not at all sexy!

I couldnt concentrate on the dancing because of trying to pick my chin off the floor because of the outfit.......what the heck was that all about.......does Aliona know that the north of England is NOT Scotland he even had yellow silk elbow patches on his shirt ........he would not have looked out of place in a production of Brigadoon.

I suspect his Latin will be hysterical. As in very bad.

From a distance it looked like a knitted cardigan/waistcoat.

I also thought he might be hampered by Aliona and so far she isnt making me eat my words.

Too early to tell but i will not be surprised if he ends up another Ricky as in technically fantastic but hard to warm to.

I don't think it matters that much to be honest. popularity based on the person these days. Matt fits the profile and so will be popular. Chris didn't really have a journey last year in truth (well not a dancing one anyway).

I agree with her. He's so dull and erm.... English.

Spot on Kips. He does fit the profile - bland, harmless and won't frighten the children or raise any blood pressure.

I wasn't a Chris fan at all.

Yep he looks like he knows what he's doing. For me it's not only who is the best; more about who's improved more. As it's only week 1, anyone of them could get my vote....apart from Ann that is.

I wasn't a Chris fan either. I'll see how I fare with Matt.
