I posted earlier saying exactly the same thing! Each judge could still comment after the performance, but not bother marking them out of 10, just place each couple on the leader board.

This week is very erm interesting (bizarre).

Bruno thinks Kara, Felicity and Michelle were of the same standard? I can't be alone in thinking that there should have been a mark between each of them?

And Len thinks that Jimi and Peter were as good as Matt and Felicity? I'll have a pint of what he's already imbibed thank.

IIRC Craig once said he marks based on everyone starting on 10 then losing a mark for every mistake they make.

Len seems to do the same but based on what he doesn't like (so less chance of lower marks)

Alesha seems to mark up to take the sting out of harsh comments from the other judges. And as for Bruno - who knows?

Well, let's face it, Craig's the only one who actually cares about the scoring. The other judges are just there for the cash.

LOL! I heard Craig say he marked each couple up or down on a week by week basis, so if we put the two things together we get a decent scoring method! Unfortunately we need all the judges to use the same method!

I've always argued against that approach. Some people say it doesn't matter, that the couples position "on the night" is the only important thing. I would much prefer the judges to mark in a consistant manner. In other words, a mark of "9" should be comparable to other 9's, throughout the series..maybe even comparable to those in previous series.
Craig is the only one who comes close to judging in this manner. You can see he is judging the progress of each contestant, and taking into account the degree of difficulty involved with the routine.
Thankfully, Alesha has reigned back a little, she hasn't shown a "10" yet !

I swear the scoring is saner now in the American version - yet in previous series I've always thought that Strictly Come Dancing was stricter than Dancing with the Stars.

Len may have overscored but if you look at his ranking i'd agree that Patsy should be where she is compared to being below Gavin and on par with Pamela. I'm totally biased towards Patsy though, i'm going to get a reputation haha.

I loved Alesha once upon a time, I didn't see the problem with her appointment as judge. However in terms of scores, Arlene was much stricter, and as such I don't believe getting 10s this year and last means as much as it did previously. Overscoring has always been an occasional issue, I remember Matt D getting a 40 for his Waltz, but Alesha didn't get 40 once, not for her Cha Cha, Waltz and Vienese Waltz which I still watch to this day.
