The fact is so many songs nowadays use the same producers, or the same sounds/rhythms etc. As well as the same chord progressions etc

Far East Movement - Rocketeer chorus and
Justin Bieber - Somebody to Love have the sound effect

The end of the Comfort TV advert and Labrinth - Let The Sun Shine
They're produced by the same people (the Stereotypes), and the Justin Bieber song is actually sampling that sound effect-Rocketeer was made first.

Lily Allen - Who'd Have Known
Take That - Shine

If you haven't heard Lily Allen's track, go take a listen. It's a very nice song but the chorus is exactly the same to Take That's Shine.

She actually contacted Gary Barlow for the melody, so it was very intentional and endorsed by Take That.

This kind of annoyed me. I understand it does in some parts, but its completely different, the timing, the beats etc...

I don't think she would have deliberately copied, and their reaction was OTT wanting to sue her.
Are you kidding? They were listening to Under The Bridge in the studio and then tried to pass it off as coincidence.

The chorus of Shakira's "Whenever, Wherever" bares some quite striking similarities to the chorus of Iron Maiden's self-titled track

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJDcVj3FTZ4

Don't think it was plagiarism as I can't imagine Shakira being inspired by Iron Maiden, but it does have similarities!

Yeah, the choruses both have exactly the same melody!

I heard Lily Allen talk about it. Apparently they noticed they had come up with the same chord progression as Shine for the song, so they decided to go all the way and see if they could sample it. Lily Allen and Take That performed a mash-up of the songs at Children in Need, even!

I love both songs. I always like it when artists acknowledge their songs sound similar, and embrace it, instead of whining about it and pretending they sound completely different.

EDIT: Damn, the above posted beat me to it!!!

There we go
Same thing with The Wanted - All Time Low and their new one, Gold Forever.
Except that's gone a bit over the top with the fact they're practically the exact same instrumental just with different chords

Dodgy - Good Enough

I'm sure his people would refer to this as "sampling" rather than "blatantly ripping-off", though.

There's something about Pink's "Perfect". It sounds like a mash-up of so many different songs!

Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man

Oasis - Lyla

Its the rhythm and tune of the verse. Oasis being very "reminiscent" of another 60's band - who'd have thought it?

Dawn Penn's You Don't Love Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ-7v4M6U-0 sounds like Dave & Ansil Collins' Double Barrel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_7Kx2FlFQY

You Don't Love Me does so not sound like 1994!

Take that - Shine
Lily Allen - Who'd have known

The chorus sounds the same
Lily Allen sampled take that so they were credited.

Millenium by Robbie Williams was a direct nick from You Only Live twice (Bond theme) by Nancy Sinatra.

Kelly Rowland's new single What a Feeling sounds like the Saturdays' Forever is Over meets Procol Harum's Conquistador

yesterday, I confused Sophie EB's Cut Straight To The Heart with Air's Venus.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_7oOMzbpa0

Apart from the sombre piano chords, I guess they're isn't much similarity really.

I honestly thought Jessie J's - Price Tag sounded like a Natasha Bedingfield song. I can't think which one though

A lot of people have been saying this actually. I can't think which song though.

Although I think Price Tag sounds like Where is the Love? by the Black Eyed Peas.

Jessie J - Nobody's Perfect
Rihanna - Umbrella

You'll probably think this is a terrible match, but listen to the chorus of Nobody's Perfect, and you can sing the Umbrella chorus over the top of it perfectly.
