Would anyone go to a seated gig?
My worst nightmare - it's not a gig if it's seated - it's cheap cabaret .
Just saying because I nearly missed tickets to Amy Macdonald - one of my favourite singers - as standing had sold out. Small balcony seating area was all that was left- but thankfully a good mate came to my rescue. Made me think - do any real music fans go to seated gigs? Why? |

I once went to a Rhianna gig and it lacked everything I associated with music - no atmosphere no interaction flat flat flat

It depends who it is. I imagine someone like Amy McDonald is not the dancy type and people would just stand there anyway.
Most of the acts I like are not really the sitting down type, so it'd be strange going to a seated only gig. The Prodigy only had seating tickets left and I refused to go and see them sitting down! It'd be awful. |

The Prodigy - seated - doesn't bear thinking about.
Amy Macdonald is exactly the same - she is awesome live. Lots of great songs to get totally immersed in - a great, great band. |

if it's an unplugged style gig i think standing up would be kinda annoying.

Impressed - good to remember there are smart folk on this forum - sometimes that's difficult to imagine |

Depends on the artist I suppose.

I think it depends on the artist and style of music they are playing.
I went to see Tracy Chapman and it was just her and a guitar for the show. It was a seated concert, and it wouldn't have been right to stand up through the songs as they aren't dancey songs. I also went to see John Mayer at the Royal Albert Hall and that was seated, although the people in the stalls area did stand up and were dancing by their seats (although the Royal Albert isn't really a dance venue). Most of the concerts I go to though I will always try and get General Admission tickets and if all that is left available is seating then I will consider whether I really want to see the artist or to dance to their songs. |

i always go seated. i'm not in to the whole squash and get to the front thing at gigs, though it would depend how much i loved the artist.

I saw Paloma standing, front row and that was amazing. However Pixie Lott is playing at a seating only venue, so, yeah, I'm stuck with seating.
I must admit, standing is a much better experience. |

Whenever I go to a Take That or Madonna concert, I couldn't give a rat's arse whether I have a seat or not because I spend the whole of the concert on my feet dancing and singing wherever I am in the stadium. Everyone does. Nobody sits in their seats.
I went to see Coldplay in the standing only area. About 10mins in I really, really wished I had a seat. I think it depends on the performers to some extent. And I certainly don't agree that people who appreciate music would never deign to sit down at a concert. What a patronising thing to say |

When ever I've seen Prince it has always been at seated gigs. Trouble is people always stand up so you have to stand up or you can't see past them.
I prefer to sit at the front of the 2nd set of rows of seats. If you know what I mean, so that you have an aisle in front of you. |

Hate seating at gigs, done it in the past though, but it really takes away from the atmosphere.
Bought Interpol tickets recently for the third night at Brixton, person I'm going with didn't want to stand, so had to go seating. Don't mind too much for a gig like that because Interpol aren't exactly a mental, throw yourself about, band. |

Seating is only as bad as you want to make it. I've seen GNR and Metallica live, seated, and they were the two best gigs of my life, because most people in seating were actually standing up and getting into the music!
But there was no squash, and we could sit down for a break whenever we wanted, and didn't get our drinks spilt all over us, and had a great view of the band etc etc.

I'm disabled so I have to sit down at concerts. It doesn't ruin my enjoyment at all.

I don't really dance either so seats suit me fine. |

Lol this is such bollocks.
'Do any real music fans go to seated gigs?' 'It's not a gig if it's seated, it's cheap cabaret'. Why do people ask such ridiculously stupid questions, and have such stupid ideas about life. |

Seated gigs vary, the ones I've been to ended up with me standing and dancing all the way through. Not every does stand though, so it depends on the people around you. Admittedly there's nothing like the atmosphere of standing at gigs, but I have disadvantage of not seeing much (as I'm 5 ft 2 - if I were a rockstar I'd let all the short people stand at the front). But if it's a choice of sitting seats or missing out on seeing a favourite artist or band, I'd rather sit than be snobby about not standing.

i agree...
Seated or non-seated, if you are a FAN of the artist that shouldnt deter you. Thats like saying if you like movies you're not a TRUE movie fan unless you go see it in the cinema. Rubbish.... Ive seen Elton John, Rod Stewart and Leona Lewis in the past year that were seated, the reason for this is the organisers make a tally of how many slower songs there is in the set and from there decide on where the majority of people that will attend would prefer to stand or sit. I find that whilst the slower songs are on then a seat is a god send but when the faster songs are played the artist will usually direct people to stand anyway - so everyone does. |
