I have a feeling that Ann Widdicombe is about to do a John Sargeant an go a long way in the Competition, she may be having fun on the dance floor and she may not get to the final, but she will give it her best shot with Anton and hew would to some good routine together that suits her

but you have to admire her for it

Can't wait for her Salsa next week

That's as maybe. I think that Anton got her as his partner to teach him a lesson after his faux pas last year

I watch SCD for the amateur talent. Well done Pamela. I can't be doing with the AW nonsense.

She was kind of entertaining when talking to the judges, but her waltz had nowhere near the charm of John Sergeant's first dance. I imagine she'll get a lot of votes, though.

She's a prejudiced right wing bigot but hey she's a dumpy little old lady so let's give her a big ole standing ovation.

I hear Kim Jong Il's been lined up for next year. Can't wait to see him in sequins.

Even dumpy little old ladies have to earn respect - so sorry no standing ovation from me; not until her last dance.

I loved John to pieces and would have loved him to win. But watching poor Anton hunched over little Ann and trying to avoid her rather well endowed chest (bless her) is not comfortable viewing. I feel she is being humiliated, but what a sport!

I thought they looked great together, and they got a rousing ovation from the audience.

I think the difference between the Sarge and Ann is the fact that the JS phenomenon took everyone by surprise whereas we seem to have been forcefed Ann as JS mark 2.

Nope, that magic trick malarky in his cha-cha was silly.

And Ann was not afraid to give Craig a jab. Actually, Paul did the same as well. They have nothing to lose.

It's a shame the inevitable comparison with John Sargent has happened, but as I said, it was inevitable. No doubt the popular press, devoid of any original thinking, will drum up some such for her, but I don't think it's necessary. Also, since the Sargent debacle made such a wreck of the show all for the sake of his desperate publicity machine, I really hope nothing like that ever happens again. It truly sucked and detracted from the show greatly. I'd rather have Arlene than a million John Sargents.

Having said that, I'm really hoping Anne is a different kettle of fish. She's older than average and she isn't a great dancer nor ever likely to be. There, I hope, the comparison should end.

Apart from being a grade A person, Anne obviously has a sense of humour and an ability for self-mockery that is natural, hasn't had to be coaxed by a media machine as John's was, appears natural and largely unrehearsed and I doubt for one minute that Anne will be pathetic enough to play anything as sickening as the "public will save me" card.

Anne can take all this with an enormous dose of humour and Anton is the perfect partner for her in this. I hope to see them stay for as many weeks as there are still "non-dancers" in the show. If the public keep her in then I hope she will stay and not resign in a flurry of pathos and self-glorification the way that JS did (may he never darken my screen again).

Exactly how I'm seeing it as well.

I'm still waiting to see what happens on here when a really good dancer has to leave because the public are keeping her in!

Exactamundo. She has clearly been hand-picked precisely to fill that position. Funnily enough, although her political views could not be further removed from mine, I don't entirely dislike her, because she is a character and because she is the real deal - ie she stands up for what she believes in, even if that's not what I believe in. Still, as you say, the John Sargent thing was spontaneous (and he is infinitely more charming and warmer than AW), and I really don't like being force-fed by the BBC.

Unlike John Sargeant, Ann is witty and fun.

I haven't been force fed it. I never saw it mentioned at all before I read your post.

Sadly I didn't find either funny, I found them both very embarrassing and not in the least entertaining. To me it seems disrespectful to laugh at senior citizens who are so out of their comfort zone. I do know that they didn't have to take part and I have no idea what they hope to get out of the experience.

Harsh. She's a former politician so her politcal views are publicly known. But do you know any of the other contestants political views? Who's to say Matt isn't a facist for example (I'm not in any way suggesing he is before people start giving me grief!). If anything, at least she's being herself and not hiding behind her public image and I like that.

It wouldn't surprise me if the public kept her in for a bit, At least she can stand up to Craig!

She and her public image are one and the same - that of a prejudiced bigot - so there's clearly no place to hide.

I've never liked Anne Widdecombe's politics, but she sticks to her guns, doesn't stab people in the back, tells it how she sees it and what you see is what you get. Whatever else she is, she is not a hypocrite.

She is also blindingly clever with a razor sharp wit and a wicked sense of humour.

She is out of politics now, so I feel completely free to like her new persona as entertainer.

I didn't watch the first two programmes, but I think i shall be watching from now on. This Salsa is going to be priceless..
