I'm new to the whole smartphone thing, and today have just got an HTC Wildfire. I get 1GB of internet per month as part of my contract.

However, reading the manual it says something about using WiFi. If I understand it correctly, I can use my home wireless network via the phone, as if it is a laptop.

What I was wondering is: does any internet use via WiFi count towards my 1GB allowance, or is this only used up by the 3g connection?

No, using wifi will not come out of your data allowance - the allowance will only be used up when connecting via 3G.

That's good news. I want to download some free apps tonight. My old monthly plan (with no free data allowance) is still in place until the 19th (then I start getting 1gb free). So from the sounds of it, so long as I make sure I'm connecting through WiFi only, I can just use this until the 19th

Thanks for the quick responses.
