I am NOT supposed to like Gavin
...but I have to admit that dance completely took me by surprise. His really is shy and used that 'arrogance' (cross arms etc.) to hide that fact.
So glad he had Katya. Recalled she did well with Phil last year with the basics of a waltz. I thought their waltz was actually quite moving. Hmm, NOT looking forward to his latin though... |

Although he danced O K, I felt he appeared very round shouldered at times. He could be a dark horse as I am sure he has support.

I actually think that the perceived 'arrogance' is just his extreme shyness. He's clearly not comfortable with demonstrating any emotion - if Katya can help bring that out of him, he could do well.
I know he acts kinda tough and arrogant, but I think he's quite vulnerable underneath it all. I like him too, although I can't quite work out why (and no, it's not for the obviously shallow reasons! )

But that said, he was good tonight. Not perfect, but good. |

No one knows for certain what went on in a relationship. From what I've read Gavin was the one who instigated the breakup after he returned from that Degree North programme. Also I've read it's Gavin who can be the diva and from what I've read and seen I don't think they're far from wrong.

Katya's got a boyfriend, so I doubt there'll be any romance. She was just as giggly with Phil Tufnell last year.
I was so suprised by Gavin, I expected him to be woeful, but Katya worked miracles, it was a lovely dance. ![]() I don't think his Latin will be as good, but if Katya can turn his training video disaster into that waltz, she may yet get him to salsa! |

Gavin and Charlotte both look like they could be diva/divo. Therein lies the problem.

![]() Maybe Gav did instigate the breakup, I don't know. But my gut feeling, from the speed that Charlotte has moved on to a new fella (that she had already been working with for a few months), is that she had already moved on emotionally, if not physically. Her heart wasn't in the relationship anymore. And if that was the case, who could blame Gavin for ending things? But that's just my opinion, my gut feeling based on observation of life and people over the years. ![]() If Gavin has been playing the field since, the local press have been remarkably restrained, which makes me think he probably hasn't. All the interviews he's given, he comes across as a devoted Dad who was very hurt by the split, and is still coming to terms with it. It's too early to tell if there's any spark between Gavin and Katya (he's not a 'heart on his sleeve' type of man, is he? ) but I think it would be nice if he found a bit of romance with somebody on the show

I don't think anybody knows him well enough to say he's "arrogant". He's hardly ever spoken in public or done anything except partner Charlotte Church and play rugby.
We have got to know him a bit better with the 71 degrees North show - so it's great to see another side of him. He's competitive sure but that's being a sportsman. He comes across quite shy and awkward as a dancer - I really hope he gets into it. They have to pretend to be someone else while they're dancing for those few minutes, and really show off. Once they work that out, they let go a bit better. I think he will improve - and probably do very well. He will certainly be kept in by the female vote - we do need something to look at! |

Gavin seems to come across very shy and uncomfortable in an unfamiliar situation. If Katya can improve his confidence levels, I think he could be big competition.
I was pleasantly suprised by last night's performance.

I was frankly staggered that he pulled it off. I am hoping that the boost this will do to his confiedence will hold him in good stead for the Salsa. I think Katya was just as proud as punch and who could blame her, everyone including the judges thought he was going to be awful and she obviouly had a great deal of work to do and got frustrated at times as their VT showed, but on show night he stepped up to the plate and pulled it off, I think if he can pull of the latin he will be a serious contender.

I like him a lot - easy on the eyes too!
![]() He is a strange mix of shyness, arrogance, self-conciousness and vainty! He's certainly very competitive, could be one to watch if his Latin is good (would give him something to fall back on now he seems to have messed up his rugby career). |

I thought he was great on last nights show, I'm chuffed as Katya is my fave professional - I thought she did wonders with him.
I think he comes across as really shy. |

Make no mistake, he's no Austin Healey. I recalled I was properly impressed when Austin did that sweet waltz with Erin. Gavin is not in Austin's league.
But that said, he was good tonight. Not perfect, but good. It's only the first freaking show. You don't know that yet. |
