Love & Romance, Sex, and Virile Men
Considering the two shows this week, there were two performances that stood out for me. And I was asking myself what these two couples had in common.
The couples were Katya and Gavin, and Kara and Artem. In one pair, a man is teaching a woman, and in the other pair, a woman is teaching a man. One couple was doing Ballroom, and one was doing Latin. One woman, has the name of a cat, Katya; and one woman was dressed as a cat, a leopard, Kara. Katya was doing Waltz, and portraying, what I wound describe as an icon of love and romance. With her long flowing hair and floaty dress she looked angelic and gorgeous. When she was talking to Tess, her face was radiant and glowing. Kara was portraying, this week, IMO, earthy sexualised woman. She looked like the icon of a sexy bitch. In anticipation, next week, the roles played by these two women will switch round, and hopefully, each will carry off the other role with equal effectiveness. These are the two dimensions of the feminine psyche. These two individual women were, in my view, the most 'feminine' of all the women on the show. By that, I mean women at the peak of their feminine attractiveness. Their two male partners also seemed to me to be the most 'virile' of all the men on the show. I wondered if there are any other candidates. James, Scott and Goldie, try to present tough personas, but I can't seen any of them squaring up to Gavin for toughness in a rugby match. Matt Baker is athletic, but far too nice and goody-goody. And Ola fills out a catsuit quite well. I can still remember THAT catsuit, from years ago. But I don't think Ola quite matches the other two ladies in the romance dept. So, to sum this up in an equation: Angel/bitch + Virile man = Chemistry. I wouldn't mind seeing a cage fight between Gavin and Artem. |

I didn't realise that Strictly was an acceptable subject for one's PhD dissertation!

Oh good, the angel/ whore dichotomy. I'm so glad that's still alive and kicking.

Yeah, we're a simple folk, us girls. It's not like we all have different personalities, or anything.
Also, I've never seen Gavin described as 'tough' before... |

Oh dear
OP, you need to get out more.
It's a television show, with sparkly dresses and soap star egos and very bad jokes. That's all. It's fake. OK? |

Don't know if anyone watched Merlin, immediately after SCD last night. It was about the Melee. In King Arthur's court, the knights would slug it out, to provide amusement for the ladies. There's a medieval illustration on this Wiki page. You can see the ladies cheering them on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melee The knight who stared in last night's show was Gawain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gawain This is actually the origin of Gavin's own name!!! And the other knight was Arthur, cf Artem!!! How cool is that! |
