Hi All,

I have my landline with BT, on the unlimted Evening and Weekend plan, and last quarter was charged for the 1571 and Caler Display services (suposedly free!) because I did not make at least 2 calls each month.

I mainly have the landline for my broadband, so does anyone know what';s the easiest way to knock off those 2 features, as I don't use them anyway.

I think they were bundled in as free when I signed up with BT.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I finally dug out the relevant page from Bt's web site to do this, so have now put the wheels in motion.

Fingers crossed!

or make 2 calls I thought caller display was also part of their free 'privacy' scheme, or has that been dropped now?

Never use 1571, if you have caller display and a memory phone you will know who called anyway, so just call 'em back

Why not just make a note (a 'repeat monthly' on Google calendar - so you get an email - is the easy way) reminding yourself to make a few 10 second calls one weekend each month (so they're 'free') to 020 7043 1320 (a geographical speaking clock number)?

A minute to set up the email reminder and then less than half a minute's work each month.

1571 is not who called you. 1571 is BTs voicemail service and yes 1571 is still part of the free privacy scheme as long as you make at lest two chargable calls a month.
1471 is the service that tells you whos called.

indeed it is, but if you have CD and a memory phone you know who has called, so can simply call back, or if it's important they can call again later !

That is one of the reason I have just got rid of Bt landline.
if I did not use the landline Bt would charge me for Caller Id, so one month I may not be charged, the next month I may be. i had enough of it, so decided to go elsewhere. My line rental when I switch over even after paying the cost for Called ID will be less than Bt line rental only

If it was not for the internet I would not even have a land line.

Why don't you just make a couple of calls each month?, if you get them free at evenings and weekends, surely there is someone you could ring and speak to for a couple of minutes!......

I don't know who you are replying to, but in my case I just use my mobile phone, Only had Weekend calls with BT, so any other calls I will get charged for.

Also Bt don't really make it clear. They say chargeable calls, so are they saying you have to make calls outside your package or are they saying calls inside your package is also ok as they are still classed as chargeable?

To late now anyway, i will be gone from Bt in a couple of weeks. I expect to hear from them asking me to stay, but sticking their line rental up by 50p have not helped either.

It's chargeable OR inclusive so post #4 would have applied.

However, as it's too late .......

I could change my mind, I had the letter from Bt yesterday say8ing they are sorry to see me go and I could contact them if I changed my mind. but that was confusing.

BT said my calls was being changed over, but said nothing about my line rental, which is strange because as far as i know both is going over to First Telecom.

i have sent a email to first Telecom to ask them, can't be bothered to phone them. i am not going back to Bt if I can help it, it was a mistake to go back to BT at all.
