IPHONE 3G needing a restore every few days!

What's going on with this Iphone!

It gets stuck on the apple logo at least once a week, meaning I need to restore. It then works fine for up to a week.

This is what I have had:

4.0.1 (Clean) - it had the same symptoms.
4.0.1 (Jailbreak) - same.
3.9.2 (Jailbreak) - same.
3.9.3 (Jailbreak) - same.

Why is it doing this? Is it broke somehow, is it possible to fix?

Its possible that you are restoring it from backup?

I've found with my old 3g, if I restore from a backup, I start getting problems. I usually set up as a new phone, I have my contacts linked to Windows Contacts.

The only thing that I loose, is my txt messsages.

Hope that helps, from one Kopite to another

Cheers mate, but no, I do it as a new phone each time (did as a backup originally but thought it might be the problem too!). Also tried a few different Jailbreak methods and custom firmwares to see if that made a difference, but it didn't. Seeing as it was doing it on a non jailbroken phone, I think it is something to do with the phone hardware maybe?

Yanks Out.

My 3G went from brilliant to knackered overnight following the OS4 update. I really wish I hadn't blindly upgraded to OS4. It's rendered the phone slow as a geriatric and it constantly crashes and craps out when browsing in Safari plus the majority of other apps.

I'm convinced there is an inherent error in the multi-tasking on 3G OS4 - I know it's not available on non-jailbroken 3G handsets (hence, why did I bother?) but I reckon the apps are still running in the background with no way of getting to them to close them and they just build up until the thing runs out of memory. A reboot of the phone only helps until you go in and out of a few apps again.

I'm really annoyed at Apple for breaking my 3G phone with this update. Is there any way of rolling back to OS3 now? I'm still paying £30 a month until my contract expires - how dare they make my handset obsolete within 18 months of purchase?

Yes mate, you can roll back.

I was on 4.0.1 and rolled back to 3.1.2 (and then up to 3.1.3).

I too found 4.0.1 a pain on the 3G.

I am not sure if this will work with 4.1 (I think it does though), but I can confirm it worked with 4.0.1.

You need:

1. a program called IREB.
2. Itunes
3. An older custom firmware.

Basically, you used to be able to downgrade using just Itunes, but Apple have now blocked this. It gives you an error when they 'verify' the firmware. Which I think is horrendous, you paid for the handset you should be able to do what you like with it.

Anyway:

IREB HERE: http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow

Custom firmware: http://www.iphoneheat.com/2010/02/do...re-3-1-3-ipsw/

Instructions: http://www.redmondpie.com/fix-1604-1...ustom-restore/

Make sure you get the right firmware for your device!

Hope this helps mate.
