Android Radio Apps

I've pretty much made up my mind that I will be ditching the overpriced iPhone at the end of my contract next month in favour of the new HTC Desire HD smartphone.

However, one of the big determining factors for me is how well the Android apps match up to Apples' for streaming radio. For me, the superb TuneIn Radio app makes the iPhone and is easily my most used app. All the functionality (and more) of a £100 wifi radio for just £1.19! The key question is, are there any Android apps out there to match or rival TuneIn Radio? The key features for me would be:
Ability to record streams to the phone/SD card (key to avoiding 3G dropouts/exceeding data allowance when listening on the move)
Ability to enter custom stream URLs (crucial)
'Now Playing' track information
Suitable for AAC+, MP3 and WMA streaming

If anyone could share the benefit of their experience that would be swell.

I'm looking for exactly the same, moving from the iPhone, I love PocketTunes which had all of that functionality, I'm also moving to the HTC Desire HD and want exactly what FM Bandit wants.

Spooky.

A couple of Apps spring to mind. One is called Radio Time this allows you to stream most if not all UK stations. The other one is Tunein Radio. As far as I am aware neither of these let you record. At least I have not found a way yet. They work on my X10,Desire,Nexus one, and Galaxy.

Sorry, what does this mean? I spotted the TuneIn Android app on Androidzoom - can't believe it doesn't record like on the iPhone

It seems to be an issue with Android devices and after quite a while searching I've only come across a couple that will record and a couple that will let you add your own custom streams. None that will let you do both!

This could be a dealbreaker - maybe I won't dismiss the iPhone 4 just yet...

Radio RIP looks like it only handles MP3 streams.

The other one I saw was A Rogue Radio Recorder, but this looks as though it's limited to the Shoutcast directory only.

Really quite gutted about this!

This is a real let down. I paid £4.99 + £2 for the aac+ codec enhancement on the iPhone for pocket tunes. It's the thing I use the phone for most. It plays steams without a buffer lag, usually about 1 second to change streams before the next stream plays. I chose AAC+ streams and added all my favourite stations too.

I'll be disappointed if I can't find anything similar for the android as I would even pay 6-8 quid for it.

Looks as if God Bless The Radio has only been around since August.
Wonder if the developer will respond to a request to make it do what you want?

Likewise.

“TuneIn Radio is now available for Android. However, it doesn't have the recording or time-shifting features currently. We don't have plans for other platforms at this time.”

Here's hoping that currently means an update is on the horizon! But it would only really be of use if you could save the recordings to the SD card...

From TuneIn's Facebook page:

Quote:
“Q: What's the deal with recording streams on Android devices? Is this a planned update? Will it be possible to save to SD card?

TuneIn Radio: A lot of requests for this but unfortunately we're not able to support this because our app depends on services that will break when the storage device is mounted to share files with a computer (among many other common scenarios). Allowing this behavior would create an even greater problem than it solves.”

Not so ready to ditch the iPhone just yet.

TuneIn Radio is fantastic on my iPhone 3G, I am also considering going for an HTC Desire/HD, my iPhone 3G is looking a bit sluggish now
