9300 Corrupt files, loss of space.

Quite a few times now I've been watching a recording, and suddenly the screen goes black, and then playback stops. The end of the video file is missing. Especially annoying when, as is often the case, you are 3/4 through watching a movie!

I think its because the HDD is near full capacity. Anyway, I suspect now that every time this happens I lose free space, because although I delete the corrupted file, my free space %age stays the same. My HDD is clogged up with crap.

I had a 'no recording' problem before, and other problems (see prev posts), but they all cured themselves. I'm glad I didn't format then, but now I think I'll have to.

Any way that I can save some of my recordings before I format? Am I correct that I am losing space, and formatting is the only cure?

Hope one of you experts can help (again!).

Over 100 looks and no-one can chip in with anything? I assume that means I'm right then. Or maybe I should simplify the question.

Corrupted files deleted, no extra free space results, therefore my HDD capacity is reduced. Yes?

I think that is obvious. I think you really need to format the drive. You can use humaxrw to download programs to a PC before formatting and then put them back after the format.

Oh, Okay. I'm not the most savvy tech-wise, so it wasn't all that obvious to me. These things seem to work in very mysterious ways. My Humax seems to find more and more intricate ways of trying to piss me off and let me down.

Thanks for the tip about humaxrw. Got a feeling I'm gonna struggle with it, but I ain't a man to back down from a challenge!
