i've got two; a plastic 3 tier steamer that i bought from amazon for £20 which still works perfectly well and a metal 3 tier one that doubles as a stockpot, also from amazon!

i have also bought 'steamer' bags from lakeland that i use in the microwave that are v good ...but would be pricey in the long run, lakeland arent cheap!
to be honest a three tier plastic steamer is probalbly my favourite athough i do use the bags a lot!

happy shopping!

I've had this for nearly three/four years and used it daily and its still in good condition so couldn't recommend it enough

I bought it for £10 its only £12 now.

I had one of those plastic plug in counter top ones but it was far too big and difficult to clean.

i would buy a saucepan with steamer to go on the stove. The M&S one recommended looks good value.

But did you mean an electric one?

If you have access to a Chinese shop get a bamboo steamer. Each 'layer' costs about £3 and it is the quickest and best way to steam.

I was bought a Tefal steamer some years ago. Noted that it took twice as long to prepare rice against my normal method and 3 or 4 times as long for fish and vegetables - and the results weren't as good..

It's in a cupboard somewhere.

I use my plastic 3 tier steamer from tefal every day, it`s great for veg cooking and leaves the hob free for other stuff, make sure you get one with a pull out lip thing to refill the water easily otherwise it can be a nightmare to refill, mine all slots neatly together, each tier fits in another so it`s easy to store. And steaming veg takes longer than boiling it so allow a bit of extra time.

I have a similar one from either Asda or Wilkinsons I can't remember similar price I think. Gosh not helpful. Really recommend over a plastic electrric one though as the pans can act as a sieve or a pan for boiling stuff ont he bottom and the lid fits my other saucespans perfectly

I'd recommend just a silver hob one you stick over a boiling pan of water, with a lid. Best for space, cleaning, and cheap too.

I bought one of those Morphy Richard Intellisteam Steamers, but sadly the novelty wore off after a few months and now it's just taking up space in the cupboard

Good thread. My tefal 3 tier steamer has just gone t*ts up, but I don't think I will be buying a new electric one. I find those metal inserts that fold like fans are good as they don't take up a lot of space. But of course, this only gives you one laye.

my veg only takes about ten minutes for one tier, but thats for 1-2 people

I have one of these and I use it all the time. Stops me burning the carrots. I have had it for nearly a year and I use it at least five times a week, if not every day.

I have a Tefal 3 tier plug in steamer and use it virtually every day. It's the 3rd one I've had, cos I've worn the others out.
I cook all my veg in them, I don't think they take any longer than boiling tbh, and sometimes fish too.
I wouldn't be without mine, when my others have broken I've gone straight out and bought another. In my case, definately not a kitchen gadget that just sits in the corner gathering dust.
I would recommend one with a timer, I had one I think was called 'aquatimer' that worked based on the amount of water you put in it. Didn't like that one, a timer is so much better.

I have a large on and a smaller one. The smaller one has two steamer pans and costs ten pounds from Tesco. It means I can cook potatoes, broccoli and cabbage all at once.

You sure you put a smaller pot in the bottom pan?

I had a Tefal one that I loved but when it 'died' I purchased another electric one and didnt like it at all. I bought myself a 3 tier stainless steel one for the hob and I prefer this one to the electric ones....less messing about when cleaning and takes up less space.

And the bottom pan can be used as a stand alone pan as well. There are also two other pans in my cupboard, which fit the steamers, so if the original is in the dishwasher, I can use another pan.
