LOL - my failure to remember is probably because Paradise Towers has been deleated from the Memory, but I reckon he's still make a good Medling Monk.

Sad to see Norman pass on - keep 'em laughing on the other side Norman!

Doctor Who guest casting - Rik Mayall would make a good baddie as long as he toned it down a bit (I still think he would have made a good Doctor actually...)”

Well we've had 'Mike' from the Young Ones and Alexi Sayle, so why not Rik Mayall, or Nigel Planer or Adrian Edmondson!!!!

Agree with you about the Lee Evans/Norman Wisdom thing by the way.

And as with The Young Ones, I'd love to see the rest of the BlackAdder Crew in Who. Rowan Atkinson, in a proper appearance, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie and Miranda Richardson, and wonder if Stephen Fry ever would appear after those comments earlier this year!!!

Maybe with a good script they could be so again in Who!!! ”

yeah they definitely are fans......oh silly me, I shouldn't have said that I hope they don't appear...I meran after al they would be working on someone else's script, so them being funny or not anymore in their own shows has nothing to do with if they can act...because they can....

Oh I did get the point but it just wasn't funny for me And when I meant their Doctor Who sketch being the worst, I wasn't necessarily saying that they were making fun of Doctor Who, i got what what they were doing, its just the joke fell flat for me.....it definitely seemed like a great idea because I think if ITV did have the show, it would have definitely been like that like their other shows, but still failed to make me laugh....although maybe its a case of getting quite agitated at their repetative words sketch of the guys who keep wanting to buy things, and one keeps telling the Dog to shut up, and the guessing who is gay game with the elderly gentlemen....so when it getsto the Doctor Who bit, I've lost the will to live

yeah that is a good point....the last sketch show by them wasn't very funny either...shame, as I used to love watching them....

yeah Lee Evans does have a passing resemblence, but he is still no Wisdom....but then who is...

I don't know who writes Harry and Paul these days, presumably they contribute things themselves. The best TV Series was when they were doing Smashie and Nicey, etc. I think 80-90% of each show was funny with only a few dud characters. Now it seems the reverse is true. If they had good writers behind them, the two of them could do a Doctor Who role, because Hale and Pace pulled it off, so did Catherine Tate.

I've seen Paul Whitehouse in an episode of the revised Randall and Hopkirk in the 90's. He played a cockney villain in that and even though he was evil, he was quite funny with it as well, sort of proves my point. Harry Enfield in the first ever Men Behaving Badly series was reasonably funny so that proves my point as well!!!!

I was also going to say John Cleese, but then I remembered he was in "City of Death" (albeit for about 30 seconds).

Assuming Big Finish doesn't count as "previous", I'd love to see Jemima Rooper as a companion.

One other person I forgot is Patrick McNee, aka, John Steed in The Avengers. Like Norman Wisdom was, though, he's probably at that age where it would be too much to start in a show like Who. Would love to have seen him starring during the classic series though.

It does seem dreadfully wrong that he was never in it, doesn't it? He'd even have made an enjoyable Doctor.

Absolutely. I think if he'd played The Doctor with a touch of John Steed(or even as John Steed!) he'd have made a good Doctor. Could quite imagine him as a Doctor with an umbrella and a the smart suits!!!

Even without though, he could have been a good Doctor but it's a shame he was in it. At least we had Honor Blackman, maybe there's still time for Diana Rigg?!!!!
