Great film, seen it a few times before. But why does it look so bad on the horror channel? It's like i'm watching a VHS pirate? At best it looks like it's been filmed on a digi cam.
It looks terrible, whats going on?

It makes it more scary in my opinion. Proper retro look.

Is that the reason though? I know that Darabont pushed for it to be in BW . Is this the colorized version of that?

The picture quality on the Horror channel is awful on pretty much everything. It's actually quite impressive that they can source copies of shows/films that look that bad.

I've recorded a couple films on there recently and the image was so bad I just gave up trying to watch as it was so distracting. It really does seem sub VHS at times..even on modern films.

Horror Channel, Moviemix and Movies4Men all seem to have pretty dire quality movies in comparison to the likes of Channel 4, ITV and Film4.

Mainly due to lower bit rates.

I agree. The bitrate of these channels really can ruin the experience of a movie.

Nah this is just a bad copy - while Horror clearly could do with more data they show perfectly acceptable quality prints as a rule and in the correct aspect ratio these days

^ Indeed. Horror showed Magic (1978) the other night and it was perfectly okay once your eyes adjusted. The Mist did seem notably poor though.

Even that wasn't in the same league as one of the channels showing of Massacre in Rome recently. So bad it was distracting - certain parts looked like an odd form of animation.

The problem with certain channels is that sometimes they speed up their programmes so they can squeeze in more adverts.

When the Horror channel aired A Perfect Getaway, the speed up was quite apparent.

That's on Movies4Men and yes its appalling, I was going to watch it but I refused to subject myself to something that looks like one of those copyright free prints on Info tv channel.
