I am 11 months into my 12 month tesco mobile contract with an iphone 3g

See if they'll give you anything off the 4 for another 12 month term? It's a good looking contract, just a hefty initial cost.

i did think to call tesco but thought i might get the heads up before i call

Supposedly if you call them on 2708 or whatever it is they will switch you to 500 mins, limited unlimited Internet and limited unlimited texts for £10 a month.
You get another 250 mins for another fiver on top.

No contract needed either. (rolling)
