I am going to reserve my final judgement on Dara for a couple of weeks to see how he gets on with other guests and other fired ApprenTossers, but he does seem a bit funnier than the Chiles.

I think they're just under so much pressure on the tasks.

I know, just wonder how long they were left hanging about before the midnight meeting. By the looks of some it might have been all evening. Then work all night. I've done that more than once and been somewhat spaced/wired by midday. Really desperate attempt by the producers to create conflict. Says something that they all made a profit and no one hit anyone

I thought Dara did a great job, he fitted in very nicely and seemed very confident and comfortable in Adrian's seat.

Adrian Chiles?? Who's he?

Yes Dara did very well, not that I really doubted that he would.
After years of trying to keep Frankie Boyle just this side of broadcastable it must have been a bit of a walk in the park!

Dara is a great placement for the boring Adrian Chiles.
How Adrian works in television is beyond me. So uncharismatic.

Anyway back to Dara I thought he was very funny and was very comfortable in this role.

Oh, how I wish Mark Firth would come back to Heat magazine...Its been pants since he left! Like the new host - He'll do just fine/although Adrian was amazing on AYF!!!!

I thought Dara did a pretty good job last night but i did miss Adrian, still l suppose none of us like all the swapping and changing that has been going on recently but we will all get used to it eventually........

It's all the BBC's fault for bringing in Chris Evans for a friday night.......

I thought I would miss Adrian too, and thought the show might be a bit awkward, but IMO Dara was fab, we giggled away the whole way through, and it felt as if he had always hosted it, thought he was really great, much wittier and created a better rapport with the panel and fired apprentice. Chiles was very ask a question, get a response, but I thought last nights flowed much better.
I guess Dara has so much experience doing Mock the Week, that it was quite easy and natural for him to engage both sides.

First time I have watched this, is the fired apprentice always so relaxed? Dan came across as much more likeable, although I am bearing in mind that this is probably a year after the event due to the disgraceful delay in the show actually being broadcast

Ooh what a shame!, this programme is always a good laugh!, and yes i would say almost all the fired contestants come out looking much better than they do in the real programme.... it is always a real p**s take and it looks like Dara is carrying on with the same theme, i never miss this programme it is a real good add on to the Apprentice.....

I don't. Glad to see the back of him, actually. Dara's much brighter and funnier.

Dara did a good job afaic.... perhaps slightly better than Adrian Chiles in terms of interaction with the guests & the fired apprentice.

I'm sure he'll get even better as the show goes on.

Was it just me, or did they show a You're Fired XL version not that long ago on BBC2?

I don't remember some of those clips from the first showing.

I agree totally, I prefer Adrian. And this is speaking as someone who likes Dara as a presenter, and was pleased when I heard he was taking over. It just didn't work as well with him at the helm.

Disagree. Given the right role (such as Your Fired), Adrian is great. On pap like the One Show, he struggles.

Yes, but bear in mind that you're falling into the oldest trap of the lot - of simply believing what the programme tells us, Tercet.

It's highly possible they worked all night and had to wait X hours for a boardroom meeting at midnight... but it's equally possible they didn't. We will never have any proof that what they say happens in the voiceover actually happened exactly as we're told it did.

We already know that Sralan tells porkie pies every episode when he says 'next week', when you know it's in the next few days, that the footage implies that the boardroom is at Canary Wharf, when it's in a TV studio several miles away, and that the scenes of each week's firee going to the taxi are all filmed at the same time (hence the fact thay're always wearing tightly buttoned-up coats, to hide thir clothes for continuity purposes).

That's just the start, there's an awful lot of smoke and mirrors goes on in TA - we never know how much stuff is re-shot to make it look better, we don't know how much of the stuff that makes them look stupid is scripted or staged by the production team, we never see the hours and hours of footage that end up in the wastebaskets of the edit suite Macs.

Nothing is ever quite what it seems in television land! I actually find it rather scary the way so many people just passively accept that what they are told by the voices from the box in the corner is the absolute 100% 'reality' of exactly what happened. When it comes to television, question everything!!

Actually I don't, at all. Everything you said has already been posted on here by me and others for longer than you have been on this forum. All that knowledge is years old. You just seem to have what you found on wikipedia, I'll try to add to it by answering some of your questions

1. The scenes with Sugar are on occassion re-shot, if he fluffs his lines or isn't happy (according to Adam Hosker). He's the 'star' and they have to keep him happy. Normal tv practice that.

2. Approx 100 - 160 hours are shot per episode. That's a lot of editing. Known for years, confirmed by Sugar a few days ago

3. We know they have been waiting in that studio for hours simply by looking at them. Common sense tells you no one gets summonded at midnight. What they have been doing previously that day, are the publicity shots and the walk to taxi bits for each.
Again, according to Adam, in his year they were kept waiting around for hours and weren't allowed to speak to each other, each having a production minder.

4. Sugar's seat is raised on a platform (not a cushion). No way is he several inches taller than Nick. The back of the chair has been caught on camera, once

5. The PR company for the show do advise/school the candidates for the after show YF and other interviews (which are part of the candidates contract). Basic stuff like how to come across better, what they can't say, etc.

6. Not all of them are vacuous cretins as you like to post in just about every thread. Nor are all the viewers which is what you constantly imply. Implying too that you are the only one not taken in by TV. Some of us here don't believe what we see in other media too FYI

On a personal note, as you attacked me personally, I don't watch any other 'reality show' now that The Restaurant went down in smoke. I have watched TA from Ep1 Series 1, like quite a few on here. Prefer to discuss each task from a business point of view rather than which candidate is 'hot or not'. But I also love to take the piss out of Sugar, the cliches of the show, point out where things cannot be what they might appear and try and correct if possible some of the lazy slurs/publicity for the show that get posted on here straight out of the tabloids on various candidates.
Some, I'll keep defending, while Micheal Sophocles and Katie Hopkins can rot in a bucket. Maybe that's an idea for another reality show? More to your taste possibly.

You don't like The Apprentice, we get it now Just keep shouting at the TV if that's what you want to do. That's what the programme makers want you to do. I'll keep watching for those that do show some flair and skill. Have to watch hard for the first few weeks

PS Monkseal dissects the show with more flair and skill than I (or anyone IMHO) can ever manage. His blog is worth the read.

Wow, who tweaked your tail?

Sorry for questioning the Mighty Tercet, expert in all matters Apprentice and television. In future I will really try to empty my mind of my experience in the industry before I post anything ever again! Plus, of course, the fact that you have been on the DS forums for a whole five months more than me makes me in awe of your senior DS forum prefect status!!

(Not sure where you live, but if you let me know I'll face that way and mutter a few prayers, if you like )

For the record, I love the Apprentice. But, like the vast majority of television, it is entertainment, pure and simple. And I watch it to see yet another conveyer belt of willing muppets make fools of themselves. Whether it's scripted or not, I care not. I find it funny. But I also can't help myself from deconstructing it, because I work in the industry and have done for a fair few years.

Henceforth, however, I will try my very best not to tread on the metaphorical toes of the Mighty Tercet, your honourable DSforumcontributorness. I apologise sincerely and profusely for implying that your knowledge might be anything less than 'expert'. For I know jack sh!t, because everything I have ever known comes from Wikipedia

PS What the **** is a 'facepalming moment?' Sometimes I get to feel very old

You did You suggested I believed 100% of what I see on television. Just replying to you, just you, that I don't, at all

Sorry if you did not appreciate my adding to your list of what is fake, and what might not be afterall.

If you work in the industry, could you deconstruct it in a more constructive way perhaps? Rather than just slag them all off as eejits. You're better placed than most. Please

Facepalming is when you cover your eyes with your hand as you can't beleive what you just saw/heard/read. I might have done that recently too Margaret demonstrated it while Kate was pitching their menu with the blinis last year. It's for when isn't enough.

There was one scene that totally messed up the timing - when LordSurallen said something about 'I'm not staying up any longer' to the guys after telling them they'd lost the task.

If we were to believe that they made the sausages between midnight and 6am, and sold them by late afternoon, then I don't see why (at the latest) 6pm/7pm is too late for LordSurallen to stay up, presuming that he, at least, went to bed the night before.

I don't take the timings as particularly real anyway, but the editing and script is usually less sloppy, IMO.

Just looked it up, Smithfield is open for trading 4am - noon Monday to Friday. It was filmed on a Friday btw. So they have to fit in round that.

Midnight sounds dramatic, rather than half eleven. When they are off to the pub (?) to choose names etc, one does look at her watch and say it's 1.15. Of course she could be lying or it's dubbed on later

Probably many were dead on their feet and you can't film him chewing one out, or making jokes, if someone actually zzz'z in front of him. Or maybe the cars got stuck in traffic and got back to the studio far later than planned or said. They are in East London (City) the studio is in Hammersmith I think?
