The Third Doctor and the Cybermen. Help please.

At the risk of showing myself up to be He Of Little Knowledge, what, if any history does the Third Doctor have with The Cybermen?

If the answer turns out to be something like "everybody knows he never met them, stupid!", I shall blush forever.

It's just that, I've been watching this program since 1963, and I've only just realised that I can't recall a single encounter. Have I missed something obvious?

I'm happy to hear of any spin-off media encounters. I am totally ignorant outside of the TV episodes.

He did meet them actually! (technically )

In Carnival Of Monsters, we get a glimpse of them.

Oh, and in the 5 Doctors I suppose

Is this ep easy to track down. Amazon and that.

I would assume that some of the off-spin media is obscure / rare / highly collectable?

Ok, here's another.

Are there any stories / eps that, no matter how much you love DW, you just can't sit through them?

My current stumbling block is Black Orchid. Love the cricket then turn off.

I remember an interview with Jon Pertwee prior to the start of the 1970 series. He said (more or less) that would be no daleks, cybermen or monsters of old, and that they were starting afresh with a new style of Doctor Who. They did this to a certain extent for the first couple of years but realised they had made a slight boo-boo, and in came 'Day Of The Daleks' soon followed by the re-introduction of the Tardis, and Ice Warriors, and more Daleks etc. Just shows that you musn't tamper with the Doctor Who theme!
Must admit - he never met the Cyberman (in his era).

It's a shame Pertwee didn't meet the Cybermen during his own era because he practically met all of the other big Who villains like the Daleks, Sontarans, Ice Warriors and The Master, off course. Glad they gave him the chance to make up for it in The Five Doctors, it was long overdue.

It sort of reminded me of the Sixth Doctor meeting the Brigadier in Dimensions In Time. Like Pertwee with the Cybermen, he was the only Doctor at the time not to have met the Brigadier (Or starred with Nick Courtney as the 1st Doctor met him as Bret Vyon)and though not technically canon, it was still nice to see anyway.

As for stories I can't stand watching, have mentioned many times The Web Planet and Paradise Towers. One other I hate listening to is The Myth Makers, really doesn't come across well at all on audio and I don't like the novelisation of it either. In New Who, there is only one story I can't stomach watching, yes, you know it, it's Love and Monsters!!!!

That's my favourite Target novelisation - thought it was superb! Agree strongly with you about Paradise Towers (hate it) but disagree strongly about Love and Monsters (love it)!

It's £7.19 new on Amazon but used ones start at £2.57. You could also try Ebay, I got mine for around £3 from there last year.

It was my worse Novelisation of Doctor Who ever and Donald Cotton's version of The Gunfighters wasn't much beter either. Neither of thems it with me very well!!!!

Glad you share my dislike about Paradise Towers but I think Love and Monsters is like Marmite, you either love it ot hate it. In my case, hate it!!!!

The Web Planet is not an awful story in itself, but just a big long borefest. Hartnell was the only good thing in it. I actually don't mind Timelash, not the best Colin Baker story going but still enjoyable, though I concede the Bandril Puppet was a bit shite!!
