"Synergy"

FFS will one year the candidates call themselves a decent funny name. Have you every heard anyone using this ridiculous word?

The name you choose does not have any affect on Lord Sugar, he does not care, are there no original thinkers? (silly q)

They could have called themselves The Losers, Baldrick's Cunning Plan, Universally Challenged, Dracula Versus the Big Wobbly Jellyfish, The Shergar tinned dog food company, Wet Spillage in Aisle 7

anything....IT DOES NOT MATTER YOU ABJECT TITS

As for the girls, Apollo is the budget brand of cycles in Halfords....nice one

If it doesn't matter, then why are you getting so worked up about it?

Yes its in the rules you have to have a tacky cliched team name.

I'd love for that to happen but they have to take into account that at some point they will be approaching businesses to sell their products to. I don't think they'd get a foot in the door with any of those names.
But loving your work.

it is the one guaranteed fact on The Apprentice that they have to come up with a name for their team, so why is that no one seems to have given it any sensible thought before they arrive!

Given that it's largely a series about people bullsh!tting, I think they should call the teams after the two words that make me want to chew my own leg off because they're so awful:

'Trending' and 'Leveraging'

(Aaarrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!)

Their reason for Apollo was okish, it's sad that names like that lose their meaning though, first thing i thought of with Apollo was Apollo the far-shooter ie the greek god, but the moon landing missions is a good second.

Synergy, urgh some more management speak. One of my bosses came out with the phrase
'we need synergy so we can get more traction on the issue', he could have said 'We need to work together to solve this problem' but no, lets confuse the matter.

A good pub quiz name type name would be 'Less chance than a cat in Chinatown/Bricklane'

Synergy - that was used by one of the teams on the American Apprentice, season 5.

The name certainly matters! Latter in the series they have to introduce themselves when cold calling on the phone or face to face, and at an advertising campaign presentation that tends to be the norm. It is ridiculous to have a silly name. In real business you may have a silly name if it can relate to your product. This show, tasks are wildcard so who knows what they will be selling.

I think it was Tre or Sayed who suggested one year:
"Sir Alans' got a huge cock"

Sounds like a winner to me anyway

Despite watching the show, those teams or team member that come up with business speak have forgotten about that.

Apollo sounds ok'ish as you can waffle something plausible about sun, reaching high etc. Or it sounds like you want to be seen early on in business listings.

Synergy, apart from being nicked from TA USA, could sound either made up BS or make people think of some huge company that had rebranded itself with a BS name.

Least it wasn't Shazam!! You'd be expected salesmen to be pulling rabbits out of wherever-they-had-been-inserted and disappointed if they turned out to be dull.

Right on.

Apollo is a man's name.

This is like the men's team calling themselves Venus-Aphrodite.

Makes you wonder if any of the ladies have got any educashun.

But, it bought them luck, and that's what matters.

And Sugar can say the lines, 'so did Houston have a problem then?' or 'still in orbit', 'safely splashed down', 'reaching for the moon', 'were they Buzz Aldrin or Buzz Lightyear?'

Someone writes his lines, they really do lol

Has anyone else noticed how easy it is to confuse the words 'synergy' and 'cringeworthy'?

Cheapo bikes are seriously the first things you associate with the word "Apollo"? Margaret Mountford would be ashamed.

Do agree that Synergy's a rubbish name, though. It's one of those tacky buzzwords that everybody uses to make it sound like they know what they're doing.

I think they probably have. I've got a hunch she didn't know Apollo's motto right off the top of her head - though I could be wrong, and she could just be really into astronomy.

I had never heard of apollo referred to a bike. When I think of Apollo the first thing that comes to mind is the greek god, not bikes. I doubt I am the only one.

Only if you're one of the lycra brigade.
I thought of the Greek God first, then the character from Battlestar Gallatica, then the Moon shot.
That two of these is male was probably not seen as a problem as they had just dismissed "Winning Women" as later the team would be mixed.

I've never heard of the cheapo bike range.

Yes, yes I have. And they were invariably total tits.

It goes alongside LEVERAGE, and EMPOWERMENT as easy-indicators that someone has no idea what they are going on about.

They chose it because "Apollo was the first rocket that went to the moon".

Which shows they too are talking out their arse, because the first rocket to make it to the moon was the Lunik II in 1959.

Any fool knows that.

I think they were referring to the first manned flight.

Yeah, I know you know.

Don't think that's fair - classics is a pretty specialist subject.
