Wasn't one of the teams on Junior Apprentice also called Synergy? I remember hearing that name on either that or the previous regular series. Perhaps it was just one of the suggested names though.

Do agree that Synergy's a rubbish name, though. It's one of those tacky buzzwords that everybody uses to make it sound like they know what they're doing.

I think they probably have. I've got a hunch she didn't know Apollo's motto right off the top of her head - though I could be wrong, and she could just be really into astronomy.”

She kept saying "failure is no option"; it was actually "failure is not an option"

Yeah, it was one of the suggested names on the JA girls' team, by Zoe. Got rejected pretty quick in favour of Revolution. (cue Zoe rolling eyes)

Synergy is one of the most thought of names on The Apprentice... It comes up in almost every discussion at the beginning of the American version. Phoenix is another one.

True that they didn't seem to know that Apollo derives from the greek god (at least none of them are greek, in the fashion of the infamous Sophocles)

However I was impressed that one of them explained to Sugar what the Apollo program was. I'd suspect he knew that.

The unanswered question is which Apollo they are - hopefully not apollo 1,

Apollo 1 was only named Apollo 1 restrospectively.

Also they keep going on about it being the name of the rocket, which is also bollocks, all the rockets that went to the moon in the Apollo programme were Saturn V's.

They really shouldn't have picked a name based on something they so obviously know piss all about. Or at least if they did, keep their mouths shut and stop explaining it all in some kind of jumbled up manner that exposes their ignorance.

The other problem is they use the word rocket in singular do they realise there were numerous missions?

Could be Apollo 13 - all stuck together, wanting to go home and using up too much oxygen

One of my facepalming moments from last year was then Margaret said "I think you're the Cassandra of the team. Do you know what that mean?" And NO ONE did! Poor Margaret, too good for the ones they get on there now.
Cassandra was cursed by Apollo (and Kate). Wasn't the one who came up with Apollo, the same one (Laura) who said 'her boss thinks she's a man in a woman's body'? Well that's Apollo, always trying to get into someone's body If rejected, he cursed them.

Did you read that on Wikipedia?

Yes - and it never got off the launchpad.

The spacecraft WAS called Apollo though. The launcher was a Saturn V, but the bit that made it to orbit (and hence to the moon) was called Apollo:

Perhaps you should take your own advice?

It isn't the motto, 'failure is not an option' was made up for the film Apollo 13

They're nothing like as capable as apollo13's crew.

serial adultery sounds more like Zeus to me.

No, I've known it before I was 8. (really loved Greek Myths as a kid)

I think that most sensible people would consider the reference to a rocket to refer to the Saturn V launcher, as it is clearly the part that is shaped, and operates, exactly like a rocket.

And the 'bit that made it to orbit (and hence to the moon)' wasn't called Apollo either.

The Landing Module was called 'Eagle' (LM-5) if we are talking about the Apollo 11 mission.

The service module was called SM-107.

The Command Module was called Columbia (CM-107).

Apollo was the name of the whole programme, with specific numbers referring to the individual missions. None of the vehicles were called Apollo.

I am surprised that you took the time to look up the Wikipedia link but then didn't seem to bother to actually read any of it. You know what Lord Sugar would be saying about that?

Apollo took after his old dad in that respect. Sort of like an apprentice perhaps 'Cept he wasn't married I don't think, so that's ok then. Just hated 'Dear Greek God' letters.

Whereas you managed to misread the link with your own agenda?

It does say Apollo is the combined orbiter and lander

But here you are, definitively:

"Apollo was a three-part spacecraft"
from
http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/ap...ons/index.html

Thankyou for that link, from that very page:

"Rocket and Spacecraft
The flight mode, lunar orbit rendezvous, was selected in 1962. The boosters for the program were the Saturn IB for Earth orbit flights and the Saturn V for lunar flights. "

So even NASA makes a distinction between the rocket and the spacecraft, and that the ROCKETS were Saturn V's. And I am sure if you recorded the programme, you will be able to check but several times they referred to their team name being the name of the rocket.

I am surprised Lord Alan did not pick them up on such a glaring error, quite frankly.

I never said they were right: I was noting that 'the rockets that went to the moon' is complete nonsense - whether you call them sautrn V or apollo.

The Apollo spacecraft went to the moon.

The eagle (in apollo 11's case) landed *, and some of it is still there.

The Saturn V rockets ended up in the sea, they never reached orbit..

*other lander names are available.

I loved the way the girls said "Apollo. It was the first rocket to reach the moon,"

Eh, it was the ONLY rocket, girls! They were ALL called Apollo!

And btw, Synergy robbed their name from an earlier team on the US version...

That would be Luna 2, the first of several Russian un-manned probes to land/thump back in 1959. Dunno if they had a motto, perhaps 'keep going, they can't all blow up'.

PS I looked it up, don't kill me

Love the way they only seem to know about Apollo because of the film Apollo 13. Replace expensive schools with Blockbusters (will suggest to Clegg)

There's also Apollo Creed, the boxer from Rocky:

But somehow I can't imagine the Apprentice girls are big fans of the Rocky films.
