Robbie Williams Appreciation Thread

I think it's about time that the Robster gets a bit of loving, seeing as sooooo many people on here seem to hate him. Whether it jealously or they just don't "get him", there isn't much love at the moment.

Thought I'd set up a "safe house" for people to actually be nice for once!!!

Personally, I think he's a legend. Having grown up listening to his music, he helped me through some really tough times. So what if he comes across a bit arrogant - it's all part of his act (and charm IMO)!!!

I think he's overrated.

But hey, haters gonna hate

I like alot of his music in particular No Regrets which is one of the best songs of all time imo

I find Angels overrated btw always did and always will.

I dont particularly like him as a person though and always found him a sad lonely yet mentally tortured soul who fed off his success and his ego but was just crying out for love. I hope he has found what he was looking for but Im not that convinced he has.

Oh and I prefer Take That without him

I'm so happy he's back with Take That. I hated him for a few years after he left TT, then didn't really pay him much attention, but as I said, I'm really glad he's back in TT. It's like he's come back home, and it's made me interested in his back catalogue.

I've removed the 'NO HATERS' part from the thread title (as we don't allow labelling). Appreciation Threads are not a place for negative comments, so if any pop up just alert us to them and we'll take appropriate action.

I think he can now be considered among the legends of British music. Mention the singles and you roll off some of the greatest songs of the last 15 years.

Although i still think he was/is the least talented member of take that i did like a couple of his early tunes (Rock DJ, Let me Entertain you.)
His latest songs really aren't good.
I love 'Shame' but i don't really think he could have come up with this track on his own.
To end i will say i'm really not happy Take That have accepted him back.

Why do some people feel the need to bad mouth Robbie all the time? He's an entertainer - not a murderer, give the guy a break. Yeah he may come across as arrogant, but that's part of the act that he does.

After all, this is an APPRECIATION thread - if you don't like him, start your own thread and leave this one for people who actually have positive things to add.

In reponse to the ongoing comments about Take That "letting" Robbie re-join, if those who think that's what happened actually listened to Gary and Robbie in interviews, you'll realise that it was Take That who went to Robbie and asked him to join. Not the other way around...

Oh yes! The Robster is number 1 in the album chart!!

He may have failed to reach the top spot with Shame (as several people on DS seem over the moon about), but there's no denying people still love his music and his fans are as loyal as ever!

I think most artists would prefer to get to number one with an album over a single any day!

Well done Mr Williams!

Ah, LOVE Robbie <3
Definately prefer him without Take That, but I also love Take That, but I prefer them without Robbie.

I will agree with you on that Ive loved Robbie since I was 14 (Im 33 now) and love him as a solo artist. I also love Take That both as the original 5 piece and as a 4 piece more recently.

It remains to be seen how much I love them all back together but I have loved seeing them together in the video for The Flood

I love the song (irrelevant if it was by 4 or 5 members). I think it's really dramatic and the video is really good - totally original.

It's nice to see the five of them together again. It's not forever - they've said that - so I hope we enjoy them while it lasts!!

Can't wait to see if they do the original "Pray" dance routine - I used to know it off by heart, but it seems to have disappeared over time!!

Actually Rob recently said that he has no plans to leave the group again.

If he ends up changing his mind, I don't think they can/will continue as a four-piece after that, even if Gary said that it's not out of the question.
From now on I think it's 5 or nothing.

The Flood is a good song, but I don't get what people like about the video. It seems completely out of touch with the song, I was hoping for something darker.

I heard on the radio earlier that Robbie has now said that his last album was a compromise and he was more interested in doing the Take That album and also that Bodies was abit crap - interesting comments

Loved Robbie since I was twelve and i'm 23 now so I missed the whole time he was with Take That in the beginning. Never particularly cared for the band so I prefer him on his own. He's a one man entertainer in my mind, he doesn't need the others.

Having said that I think the last good album he did was Intensive Care. Reality has got some decent tracks on it but unfortunately didn't have much of an impact on me. And Rudebox... well no comment lol.

To the OP - I know what you mean about growing up listening to his music, I definitely felt a connection to his lyrics, I can remember coming home from school and escaping the stress by listening to Life Thru A Lens and I've Been Expecting You. Cannot describe the excitement I felt when I was thirteen and Sing When You're Winning came out. I don't think I've ever anticipated an album so much in my life... and probably never will again!

I totally agree. I used to rush down to the shops the day of the release (or in my lunch break) and grab the first copy I could find, then listen to the entire album on a loop!!

I truly think if you grow up listening to someone, your opinion is so different about them than someone who was an adult at the time. Robbie was a hero to me growing up and no matter what sh!t people say about him, they can never take that away from me....no pun intended!!

Ha ha, exactly! I think it's because kids tend to put their idols up on a pedestal like they can do no wrong. Robbie could release a crap album but I'll still buy his next one

Saw him live in 2001 in Hampden Park, still have the ticket to this day, in fact I can see it from where I'm typing from. Was brilliant and very memorable, such an entertainer and that's why I'll always be fond of him no matter how many papers put him down.
