Chicago native Lupe Fiasco talks about the hold up with his project at Atlantic Records and his career. How his label didnt send his song out to radio.

Why not have this conversation privately with his label?

He's hardly going to be in their good books by lashing out publicly, is he?

Really feel for Lupe Fiasco as his first album was great but he gets little publicity

lowkey did a song about Chipmonk that talked about these 360 deals, sucks to be a commercial artist these days

Getting hyped cos sum 12 year olds felt your song

Does this little midget really fink he's a lyricist?

Took me twenty seconds to find a copy of the as of yet released demos. It's the record company that will be losing money.
Records labels want their artists to sound in a certain way
According to various sites the record company sent the demos back to him to change the hooks 'over 60 times' and he has been in tears on stage at concerts discussing this. Atlantic Records are looking stupid and the fans are growing weary of how long it is taking to release.

I'm reminded that it took Smile Empty Soul three years to self-release their brilliant record Anxiety as the record company (Lava- subsidiary of Universal) felt uncomfortable with it's lyrical content.

If I was Lupe I'd either set up my own label or go somewhere not wanting a 360 deal- but good luck with the second option

Agreed, it would be better for him to release his material on his own label.

Alot of artists do that, Dizzee Rascal, Jay Sean, lil wayne etc.

"The Cool" was an amazing album, and I know LASERS will be even better.

Listen to Beautiful Lasers (Snippet) love it

Make of it what you will for now.

Also if anyone has been following Kanye's G.O.O.D. Friday tracks, could this be the next?

Finally Kanye has said the CRS project is still on the cards, anything to get some more Lupe!

If you take the bribe i.e. the advance, you've got to except the consequences I'm afraid.I like the way he said he paid for the video out of his own money - probably this money is the advance money which of course is recoupable i.e. if the artist doesn't make any profit for them they have to pay it back.Sounds like Atlantic are trying to break him into submission to make him produce music on their terms not his own. They know they can do this because the contract he signed probably is not very flexible creatively at all. He's got to do it their way or face the financial consequences. The bottom line is that major labels are only interested in making money - if they don't like something it is their perogative to change it as they see fit.Especially if the words "commercially acceptable" are written into his music contract deal.

Labels simply don't want to release music unless it conforms to what they want it to sound like. Why do you think Chinese Democracy took so long to release? It's a massive departure from the 'classic' GNR sound, and the label didn't want that - only reason it ever got released was because Azoff bullshitted the label into believing once it was released the original band would re-unite!

Innit. They could release it tomorrow if they really wanted to. Apparently he's completed more than one album but the label is just sitting on them. It's pretty sickening

His album the Cool was AMAZING, you dont get voted 4stars for an album (rolling stone) for nothing.

His lyrics are completely different to other artists POSTIVE

Don't blame him for holding out for so long, I'm sure the new album will be great, Atlantic were basically pushing him to fill the 'B.o.B role' for a few years and he was even offered the track Nothin On You first but Lupe didn't want to go down that commercial route hence the commotion and threats of protests from his die hard fans.
