I love your stories Walter. You should write your memoirs.
Walter, if you ever wrote a book I'd be quick to buy it.

One of my regrets in life is that I never met Eric Sykes, has anyone on here met him?

I was a receptionist at an International accountants 25 years ago. Julie was one of our clients and was a regular visitor. I can honestly say that she is one of the nicest, most down to earth, unspoiled celebrities that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I have met quite a few.
I automatically called her Julie, not Miss Walters, which is what I would usually do with clients, but she was just so friendly that I felt that I could. I was so overwhelmed when she first turned up that I did go bit over the top, telling her how much I loved all of her TV shows with Victoria Wood. She laughed and said, "Obviously a man of great taste!" ![]() When I asked her of she would like a coffee she said, "No thanks, but I am dying for a cup of tea!" ![]() Our company had placed some hideous paintings in reception, which all of us hated, and we were told to ask the clients what they thought of them. When I asked Julie for her opinion she said, "Well, it is just as well that I am not feeling depressed, because if I was, I would feel like cutting my throat if II sat here looking at them for too long". I was very pleased to pass on Julie's opinion to my boss, he was not amused. ![]()

I was visiting a book shop in the West End, casually browsing when I heard two familiar voices talking to each other behind me. I realised the most familiar one was Dennis Norden, so I turned round to see Dennis sitting with Eric Sykes doing a book signing. There was no one waiting so I just spoke a few words to him. I should have stayed longer I suppose because I can't remember what was said. |

I remember when she had Denis Healey on her morning show in the 80s and suddenly blindsided him with a question about what he was doing using private healthcare as Labour man, asked with a snide smile, even though it was nothing to do with the interview. It just came across as rude point-scoring.

Me too, about 15 years ago at my old media job. She was so nice and really beautiful, I was actually taken aback at how beautiful she was, even better in real life.

I think Anne Diamond may have been a bit of a diva in her heyday (I remember her being a bit full of herself) but life events have taken the edge off her. Her baby died, she was humiliated in a big way when her husband left, there was enormous coverage of her weight gain and accusations about her having a gastric band when she joined a celebrity weight loss tv programme. She has, rightly or wrongly, taken a lot of flak and seems a much humbler person these days. No doubt, too, that she has been an utterly devoted mum to her sons.

I can only speak from my own experience, over 20 years ago I was a receptionist at the accountants, Ernst and Young, and one memorable day Julie came in as a client.
I was totally in awe, but managed to contain my excitement when I asked her to take a seat. She had to wait a while for her meeting with one of the partners, so I asked her if she would like a coffee, and she replied, "No, but I am dying for a cup of tea!" I then blurted out, I am such a big fan and have everything you have done on tape, she smiled and said, "Obviously a man of great taste!" ![]() I phoned our tea lady in the kitchen and told her that Julie was in reception and she rushed out and they started chatting away about Julie's daughter Maisie, who was just a baby at the time. She was just delightful, friendly, down to earth, and very warm, and I have very happy memories of her. Julie and Anita Harris were the favourites of all of us on reception and in Security at that company. ![]() Back in the early 90s fresh out of uni, I did some catering for John Freida in New Cavendish St. (I was hopeless!). Aside from providing me with insight into the cut throat world of celebrity hairdos (& DONT'S...), I also had to serve the food to them whilst they sat 'in situ'. In the basement, I came out to serve 'our Julie' who sat extremely patiently, whilst having some process done to her hair. Except, being me, it cant go smoothly... I decide to bring out the tea, shaking, so half the cup fills up the saucer and completely soaks up the accompanying biscuit as I lay it on the ledge, I try to offer humour, by semi-quoting one of my fav Victoria Wood sketches, "One tea...And...Another tea...?!" I even did the 'shakes' to make it look better! She looked at me, with a mixture of helplessness & grief & kindness. Julie, as ever, the consummate professional! I served Norma Major (timid), Shakira Caine (aloof with very visible facelift lines), some of Take That &....JUDITH CHALMERS!!! Judith's hubbie was also her chauffeur & both were lovely. ps: A replacement cuppa with accompanying DRY biscuit followed swiftly, and behind the scenes, my legs were slapped! |

Loved reading these. In my working life I've come across more than my fair share of celebs.
Here are my top 5 Naughty and nice Nice Joe Brown (never heard a bad word about him ever) Bernard Cribbins (everything you want him to be) Stephen Merchant (was great company) Gary Bushell (I know, surprised me too,he couldn't have been nicer and paid for all the drinks,as did Joe Brown ) Helen Shapiro (she was amazed I knew who she was and knew so much about her ,big fan you see, and stayed to chat with us for 30 minutes, her husband was lovely too) Naughty Dave Lee Travis (The anti-Joe Brown) Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) total twunt Walter Swinburn. I know he died recently but he was the sporting DLT CILLA (Vile) Naomi Campbell (Moronic and nasty with it) |

According to my wife who was a Production Assistant on The Terminal, Catherine Zeta-Jones was a pain from the minute she signed onto the contract until the minute the film wrapped. Often not turning up to Pre-Production appointments & then making unscheduled appearances and being annoyed that the crew weren't ready for her Generally treating most crew members with a better-than-thou attitude
During the Surviving Christmas Shoot (set in Chicago at Christmas) Ben Affleck went on a weeks holiday in the Caribbean (I think it was during Bennifer) and came back with a very healthy suntan and had to be heavily caked in make-up for the remainder of the shoot to hide the sudden tan |

My contributions aren't that exciting but....
I spent some time with Judith Chalmers and she was absolutely lovely, chatty, fun, just as I imagined her. Bruce Forsyth... I was 7 months pregnant, very obvious as I was huge, and at Wimbledon Tennis and on my way through a door, and he breezed out of it with Wilhemina his wife, and literally knocked me over. Not one word of apology. Just carried on walking without a backward glance. David Attenborough, back in the day when the BBC were just starting the Wildlife programmes, I was his runner and he was such a lovely unassuming man. Always please, thank you etc. I've been a big fan ever since. |

One more....
Annie Kirkbride, Deidre from Corrie (RIP) .... I've had a drink with her with a group of friends at a bar. Great fun and the dirtiest laugh ever! She was a very private person, sad loss for her to go so early. |

Santa Claus. I went round his grotto and Mr so called Ho Ho Ho wouldn't let me sit on his knee or give me a present. Just because I'm in my fifties, weigh twenty stone and I was pissed as a rat. Ruined my Christmas.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is well known for her diva style behaviour off camera & on set.
Here's a post I wrote about her on IMBD.com 1) The hate on 'All My Children' was from both sides. Have you ever actually watched an episode? Erica and Kendall (Lucci & Gellar respectively) passionately HATE each other! That's gotta be the best bitch acting SMG's ever done... and she was what? 18 at the time? She won the Emmy, thought "I'm a STAR!..." and left the show as she was better then it... Sorry no. She THOUGHT she was better then it! Lucci had a well nasty reputation before Gellar came aboard, but it was around her time on the show that things became extremely heated between the two ladies - one of whom happened to be young and all things considered, well established child star come rising actress... Lucci was jealous! Anyone can see that and not need proof! But the stories circulating at the time were of Gellar's response... she gave just as good a bite back! Whether she was fired or left the AMC soap is not the thing people discuss. It's her beginning reputation of being a bitch to others that gets talked about. 2) The Sarah Darling thing is true! The blonde who played Sarah in the movie was acting pretty much as big a bitch as SMG herself during her few brief scenes. You have to remember Gellar landed a network TV series, which titled HER as the main character & had started getting more and more movie offers. Of course her head was up her own arse! as sadly most young actresses of the 90's were. They think they're it! They've made it and they have everything! I've seen the interviews with Gellar saying she called Joss Over & over again to find out if they got the series confirmation pickup for BUFFY - she pursued that role more then any of the other actresses and had to screen test like a dozen times. What does that tell you? - she's ambitious, keen and most importantly @ the time very smart... & again at the time also attractive, which lets not kid ourselves was pretty important. She had the smarts to seek out a role that broke away from her soapy roots, to something new and totally different. Which at the time, in tv land : 'BUFFY The Vampire Slayer' truly was! It was the 90's with 'Girl Power" at it's height - Spice Girls were taking over, Lara Croft was dominating the video games market and Buffy was on every Tuesday night! More then a few people from Buffy's set said SMG was 'different... when she came back for season 2...' - Which just happened to be after filming IKWYDLS & Scream 2, she knew she had the series in the bag, Buffy was picked up and she was in the words of one on-set observer "In Diva mode". 3) She distanced herself from her co-workers and crew on Buffy. She keeps personal and professional lives separate. Many people do! But it leads to a slight friction within working environments... trust me I know! over time that friction can begin to cause underlying tension then tension leads to drama & drama to petty squabbles and finally a fallout. Essientally that's actually what happened on Buffy... Everyone got on in the beginning, friends and great co-workers... tension arises, new people come into play, more people want to be at the centre of attention - James Masters I'M LOOKING AT you! - the creator bails , sharp & witty writing & character arcs go out the window in favour death and misery (Season 6...) and finally the now worn out star calls it quits... There were rumours of her being a queen on Ringer's set too actually... look it up and you'll find a few quotes from production & crew. I love her but she does have the reputation of being a bitch on set sadly... and you know what they say? Reputation follows you like a bad smell! And so maybe that's why I get both sides of the argument with SMG... she's a bitch but one with a heart. Please get her on SQ!! I've edited some parts out as it's not appropriate but she was well know for being the biggest cow on the set, truly an insufferable bitch by the Seventh Season.
