Could not disagree more

4 piece Take That is what catapulted them into a different league to what they were in the early 90s, the songs/the chemistry between the 4 guys/the atmosphere it all just fitted.

I dont LIKE Robbie in the band to me he isn't a member of Take That he is a solo artist. I guess I'll just have to grim face and deal with it though.

Only here and in Germany. Robbie is world wide. Why do anti Robbie fans not realise this

Yeah, he was a smash in the US...

Even TT had more success there than him!

No way is this as good as any single released by the four piece.

Shine , and Patience both shit all over this pile of crap.

100% agree with this.

I've just read on DS that Robbie has confirmed he doesn't plan to leave Take That.

This is just devastating.

I'm amazed that people actually think this is better than what they came up with as a four piece.

Okay smart arse. World wide doesn't have to mean every single country does it. The only success Take That have had there is with 'Back for Good' which was when of course Robbie was STILL IN THE BAND! Also, Robbie's debut album went gold over there and Angels is well known also.

If that is true and Rob has said it (and means it) I'm actually quite impressed with his commitment. Although I think Take That have been brilliant since the comeback ... and they don't need him ... its obvious they want him and vice-versa. Although I don't think he'll make much difference to the sound of Take That. Take That as a four piece act would have had a smash with The Flood anyway and their album is destined for number 1 for a good few weeks. However ... I'd rather Rob was 'back for good' rather than for a year and then bugger off again ... because if that happened ... I think it would be the end of both acts.

By the way ... although I say The Flood will be a smash (it will sell bucket loads but I doubt it'll get number 1 with the competition that week) I still don't think its the great song everyone is claiming it is.

I think the problem all along with Robbie is that he really does mean what he says ...... but then will turn 180 degrees the opposite a few days later.

Personally, if I was a Take That fan not mad on having "The Ego landed back for good", then I would be very concerned at the title of this single.

In 1997 when Robbie Williams met former World Party & Lemon Trees tunesmith/songwriter Guy Chambers he asked Guy to come up with something to "out Gary Barlow" on the ballad front ..... the result was "Angels". But the pair dramatically fell out when Williams signed a new 80 million pound deal with EMI in 2002. Guy understandably asked for more money, as Robbie was on an increased royalty rate but Robbie was so infuriated by the request that he broke the partnership.

Robbie & Guy attempted to reunite in 2007, but it did not work out as Robbie wanted Guy to sign a songwriting handcuffs deal which Guy was unwilling to do.

Guy Chambers has to be honest been more successful as a songwriter post his split from Robbie, as he has written two genuine classic songs "The First Day Of My Life" which was recorded by Melanie C in 2007, it may have not troubled the charts in the UK, but it has sold over 2 million copies including topping the charts in Germany; Spain; Switzerland & Portugal; made #2 in Austria; and #3 in Russia and went Top 10 in 12 other European countries.

Whilst in 2010 he co-wrote a song with Katie Melua which although it only reached #35 in the UK; it has now topped the charts in Poland; Switzerland; Georgia; Latvia & Lithuania; reached #2 in Denmark; #3 in Germany; Russia; Norway; Austria; reached #4 in France and was a Top 20 hit in most of the rest of Europe selling over 1.4 million copies to date after five months.

The song in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E4-9yKTv_I&ob=av2e

is titled "The Flood".

Personally, I think the Guy Chambers penned; William Orbit produced track is better.

Robbie has been a bit cagey about Angels ... I've read (in numerous places ... and it is believed to be true) that it was actually a bloke in Dublin ... Ray Heffernan that wrote it. Guy Chambers just tidied it up and gave it its 'sweeping' effect. Heffernan was reported to have been paid £10,000 to relinquish all rights to it though when Rob's people believed there were the bones of a good song there.

Not much Robbie has done has been original. I believe he does write his lyrics on the bulk of his songs ... but I seriously doubt he writes a note of music.

Yes, but to be fair the original demo which I've heard pre Guy Chambers was an maudlin indie/folky dirge.

It wasn't until Guy Chambers got hold of it and stuck on those anthemic "Hey Jude/Imagine" type piano chords, and most importantly came up with the best bit of the song which did not exist previously "... and through it all, etc ............ I'm loving angels instead" which is the part that gets the crowds going at Robbie concerts. Indeed some music critics wonder whether the fact Robbie lets them sing that part of the song is because Robbie had no part whatsoever in the composition of that chorus.

I have to be honest though ... I can't stand Angels anyway. Even Ray Heffernan said he didn't think it was that good ... and you're right ... it was Chambers that made it the song it is. I do like a few Williams' songs ... but Angels isn't one of them.
