I'm trying to get to the bottom of a slight out-of-synch audio problem on my Foxsat/LG 37LH4000 set up. I've just found this on LG's website:

Q: There is a synchronisation problem with the sound and the picture when viewing an HD channel (PS3HD, Freesat HD, Sky HD set top boxes).

A: Most LG HDMI ports do not support the DTS HD signal, so please change the audio settings on your set top box to either PCM or AC3.

As far as I can tell, this advice is useless to me - the only audio options on the Foxsat are stereo/mono. Does anyone know what 'type' of audio the Foxsat is set to and can it be changed?

Don't know the audio type but you can adjust the sync on the Foxsat HDR via the menu, go to Menu -> TV-setup -> Lip-Sync

This advice is total rubbish. There is a problem with some LG tvs with the default sound track used by HD channels namely Dolby Digital as compared to the sound used by SD channels mpeg1 layer 2 (mp2) which is output as lpcm stereo.

DD takes a liitle longer to process than MP2 so the video has to be delayed a liitle compared to SD channels,

The delay is however related to the processing power of the audio receiver (in this case the TV) so it's not a fixed value.

Basically because a freesat box has to work with multiple tv's it falls on the TV maker to specify the correct delays to match video with audio. It's true that the Humax boxes allow a degree of adjustment but the difference for some LG tv's is so great that you can't correct it.

No problem with Sky HD boxes simply because they can.t deliver DD sound over hdmi.

In my humble opinion LG know they have a major cock up and are simply trying to avoid owning up to it by stating complete rubbish. No transmitted broadcast source has DTS audio

Many thanks for that Graham. It does seem like nothing will ever be done to fix this. The last email I had from LG simply advised checking to see that the latest firmware was installed on both the telly and the Foxsat. Luckily, the problem is minor and, on some days, unnoticeable.

Sorry, tgabber, forgot to thank you for your input. The lipsynch function doesn't work here as I need to make a 'negative' adjustment.
