Does anything? Least of all a silly BBC One show. None of us are any more likely to become Lord Sugar's next apprentice than to have a romantic altercation with Melissa. 'Sjust interesting.

Not that I think we should spend our time prying into their personal lives. Totally agree! It's hollow and a bit voyeuristic, not to mention irrelevant to the show. But it's also a valid question. Human behaviour is driven by sex. Rightly or wrongly, it's how we define and categorise people. Probably rightly, as it's a pivotal hallmark of the circle of life. Not to say that you should then proceed to throw cliches at them, but I can see why you'd speculate that she might be - she does present herself as a fairly spiky, bohemian kind of mish-mash of Sue Perkins and Gok Wan. Is there any reason not to speculate? She's an adult, and quite an outspoken one judging by this week's performance. I don't think she'd be ashamed of having a sexuality.

...I don't have an opinion either way, for the record. She might be, or she might just be a bit rock and roll. I just see "is it important?" asked quite a lot, and I think it's a fairly flimsy question on a board full of meaningless television and showbiz tattle-tales. It's not un-important, especially not compared to "Lady Gaga has worn some meat or some bollocks like that." I'm a straight male! My gender and sexuality are important to me. That's kind of part of my identity. I'd expect they would be to all humans - 'cept possibly monks. (And even then, it's significant by absence.) As is my music taste, and my sense of humour. If you're interested in a person, which we are or we wouldn't be watching this show, there's no reason not to be interested in their sexuality.

Like I say, though, I agree with you to an extent! It's never going to change the way you live your life. It's voyeuristic and needless. But then so's the media! Go to the Oxfam website if you want to talk about something that matters. Or start some petitions.

Perhaps the question should have been: would it affect her business ability?

it also matters in the sense that the politically correct brigade want to have their cake and eat it too.

one minute they will be saying that sexuality doesnt matter and the next saying there should be more high profile gay people in this or that profession.

moreover if someone in a high profile profession - 'comes out' - say an MP - then its applause all round.

either it doesnt matter - or it does. you dont need quota's for gay people if it doesnt matter.

plus there is a thing called human interest. if we think people are keeping secrets from others - human beings by nature are curious - but in PC la la land human nature needs to be repressed to adere to a bunch of rules dreamt up by our ethical betters

Why are you talking to yourself? This is a much more pertinent question.

It's funny how the nasty brigade alway find someone to pick on - at least this time it isn't anyone brown. I can not think of a single reason why anyone would want to pick on Ms Cohen the seller of kosher food. Is it because she wears glasses?

Ruth Badger and Mary Portas say no

PC?

It's 2010 I don't get why anyone's bothered unless you're a woman who finds her attractive and wishes to pursue her.

I read rwebsters post as him taking the p out of the OP and the PC.
Though some of the PC comments could be posted by Mac's.

Its just a question, why in 2010 as you put it do people have to be so right on to type resposnses like "who cares" or "does it matter". I mean do any of these threads REALLY matter? Chitchat like this goes on around every office water cooler in the country, even by the people I refer to in this thread.

Do you mean comments and questions like <whisper> 'That iamsof***ed. Why do you think she's so nasty? Was she brought up by christian loonies and thinks everybody is like her?'.

I have no idea who she is as there has only been one programme so far and so have not had a chance to get to know any of the contestants,
