Who do you guys think the better vocalist is?

My two friends are having a massive fight about this right now as they are both psychotic stans.

We all know Mariah has a bigger range but having a large range doesn't automatically make someone a great vocalist.

Help settling this would be appreciated.

Mariah leaves me cold. So, Christina for me.

Not pushed by either now but I think Mariah was the better singer.

Both are great vocalists but Mariah wins by a clear mile for me. Her back catalogue is just amazing...

CHRISTINA!! she has such a raw and deep voice i LOVE! always been a fan, just an amazing voice and performer! and she's not afraid to take risks, Bionic didn't light the charts up but it shows that she's up for anything and it's a quality pop record.

Stripped and Back To Basics are quality masterpiece albums too looking forward to Burlesque.

Mariah however i only own Music Box the album, but she just hasn't been diverse enough or innovative or even THAT interesting really, but she has remained pretty well established across 2 decades and her voice has remained consistent too but she's not my cup of tea! Whitney i feel the same about really, but i love Whitney's early work just not now either both have yet to win me over.

Xtina really rocks my world with her presence and voice! i really want for her to go on tour soon! Bionic has so much potential!

I understand your points and respect that you prefer Christina, but you can't say that Mariah hasn't been diverse or innovative! Her image has changed dramatically and so has her musical style. And she basically brought melisma to the mainstream.

Nowadays, not sure. But current Christina (although, even she is losing her voice slightly), compared with prime Mariah - definitely Mariah.

Although should be noted, that Christina is a huge fan of Mariah's voice and her music, and was greatly inspired by her material.

i personally haven't seen mariah change image and sound THAT much really! i mean i respect her so no offence to her or her fans but i have always known her in one style of music really and that's why her fans love Mariah.

whereas i love my artists to really push themselves with new sounds, artistically innovative work, striking image and quality productions and song work!

but i don't dislike Mariah at all, it's just i find most of her songs relatively the same, one ballad fits all and one uptempo and you've heard it all really :/ sorry.

Anyway its Mariah hands down. No need to explain. Even in her current vocal condition mariah is still a far better singer than christina was in her prime.

Because you know what you are talking about and can explain it better on a technical level.

A question like this is down to taste. Christina is better in my opinion but from a technical point of view (some one who prehaps knows alot about the voice) it may be a different story.

Both awful with crap songs. Mariah thinks she can sing any old crap and have success. she bombed years ago. Christina, anoying voice and no ones interested in her anymore.
