If the best people can complain about is her grammar she must be doing her job well. I think she's fabulous and I couldn't care less about the way she speaks.

Sure her poor grammar is annoying sometimes but I'm used to it now. She's not so bad really. I find Bruno far more annoying anyway

Bad grammar has the same effect on me as bad breath. Totally offputting.

There's no excuse for a media-type person whose job it is to communicate to murder the langueage. Someone should take such people aside and have a quiet word with them.

Oops, I just murdered the written language myself. Misspelt a word in my post. Apologies, folks!

I guess I'm going to have to take you to the side and have a word with you then.

Two mistakes!?!
Oh no, the world just stopped turning.
Who's going to kick it into gear again?
If that is at all possible after the events of tonight.
Someone should start a thread on that. Oh, wait...

Is that an excuse? text speak is flooding our language and you think people should talk like they're 5 year olds? Do you approve of the dumbing down of society?

I must admit that 'you was' makes me cringe, especially from a TV presenter. Same as the illiterates who type 'of' instead of 'have' etc etc etc.

Seriously though what's the big deal? Being picky for the sake of being picky.”

Not being 'picky' at all.

If someone is going to appear on a prime time TV Show, they could at least try and speak the Queen's English correctly.

I cringed when Alesha said 'you was'!!! Aaargh

My husband tends to say 'you was' instead of 'you were' too and I'm sure he just does it to annoy me as he knows it winds me up!!

Yes, that's another one of my pet hates too.

Also annoying when some newsreaders cannot pronounce the word 'deteriorate' correctly. They quite often say 'deteriate'!!

That is a good point.

Would rather she wasn't on the show at all. Why they got rid of Arlene Phillips is beyond me.

Just go back and edit it.. You have half an hour (I think) from when you first posted. My posts would be a mess without the edit button!

'nucular' is another favourite, NOT.
Beats me how they get these highly paid jobs.

I do not think she should be a judge - but she is - I still think her comments are vapid "sexy" "beautiful" "you look like you were having fun" - she does not take up too much time saying this allowing (which is good) - am hoping this is her last year - for her benefit and for that of SCD

The OP's is a valid comment contributing to discussion about the show whether you agree with it or not. The words the judges use are noticed and debated otherwise they would just be sitting there holding up score paddles.

Yours isn't.

Why not try and take a more relaxed view? http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/so...egional-voices.

Len and Alesha speak their local form of english and Bruno speaks English as his fourth language.

And Jimi and Tess speak in accents honed in Northern England, and so on.

As for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I notice her way of speaking has changed a great deal since her" My sister Margaert Rose and I" broadcast as Princess Elizabeth

"Good Night and Good Luck to you all"
And her 21st birthday speech from Cape Town
