The Glee cast has surpassed the Beatles for the most appearances on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart by a non-solo act.
The cast of the Fox television musical series about a high school glee club has six debuts on the chart this week. That gives it a total of 75 songs on the chart to the Beatles' 71.

Glee has already ruined the American charts, by notching up all these entries on the HOT 100 (beating the beatles). lol

You might want to get angry about something less trivial than the fact some people chose to buy certain songs which consequently chart. It's kind of sad.

I'm just saying.

Totally irrelevent

Download charts make this simple these days, especially as single songs can be downloaded separately from albums they belong too and other such nonsense.

Plus it's America. . .which says it all Glee rules their top 40 - does it get any more absurd?

Well the first series of GLEE was popular in the UK, but just wait for when the 2nd series airs. We'll see total destruction of the UK charts with all these Brittany covers / lady gaga.

Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to avoid watching the UK Top 40 countdowns then

Yes charts are silly and dated and irrelevant, I know.

This does, however, kind of make me doubt the continued value of humanities existance.

I can't help it.

If it's music, and it's with regards to America - I ignore it all.

Americans know shit about music. Have you seen their chart?

John Lennon would have been 70 this weekend, and I'm sure were he still with us today he would point out that there are far more important things wrong with the world than the success of a formally quite ironically funny now rather cliched telly show.

He would probaly have a 3 week long naked love in protest against .... over fishing of cod in the north Atlanitc, or something.

I am not as wise a man as John Lennon. This therefore makes me sad.

Me too.

Screw the music snobs. I hate people like this. There is room for everything. My music collection is so ridiculously varied that my genius doesnt even work properly on my ipod.

So what if I like Glee? So what if I also like the Beatles. To dismiss something like Glee because you don't like it or it isn't real or whatever other reason you have does not make any difference. It is still there, still happening and still very important. If not to you, then to others.

I love Glee but I don't like the fact that their covers enter the charts. If all of their songs were original and specifically written for the show then there'd be no problem, but that doesn't happen.

I think it's time we had a seperate covers chart.

Not sure how a separate covers chat would work. It isn't just Glee who do covers. In fact these days there wouldn't be anyone in the charts!

Glee hardly "Rules" their top 40 (which by the way is considered Top 100)

The majority of tracks place around 50 but obviously get higher based on popularity of the original song

They have sung one lady gaga song in series 2 so far, and they did a single episode with Britney songs, where its only likely to be Toxic that charts over here anywhere above the top 30

The american charts are actually usually a lot fairer and representative of what is "good" rather than what is purely popular like in the UK so I don't know what that comment is supposed to be about. Also, if you ignore the music produced by american artists (which should include international artists influenced by USA) then your music tastes must be pretty limited because pretty much every genre of music has a "greatest" who is american?
