Is it me?....

Or has the "American Smooth" (or International Standard) style of Ballroom now been adopted on SCD. I know it is a staple of Dancing with the Stars, but I thought SCD was safe from this infection, except for when couples were doing an actual American Smooth. I know Len Goodman isn't a fan because he said so on the first series of DWTS. Only for Tony Dovolani to dismiss him with the comment that Len appears not to know the difference between the British style of Ballroom and the International Standard.
Not that I mind the American Smooth but not in every Ballroom dance as I believe it allows couples to get away with doing less content. Get back to doing PROPER Ballroom SCD!!!

Since when is American Smooth the International Standard?

I have NO idea breppo.I'm only going by what Tony Dovolani (a dancer on DWTS) said when he was reprimanded by Len Goodman for doing an American Smoth-ish Foxtrot (I think). Obviously Len wasn't a fan of the great amount of time that is spent out of hold. When asked asked about Len's criticsm backstage Tony Dovolani simply brushed it off by saying Len obviously didn't know the the difference between British Ballroom, and the International Standard. So I assumed that American Smooth is the International Standard, or at the very least the style that is practised in America

There are two main styles: International and American Smooth. International is the de facto style for all major dance competitions outside the USA and was the standard by which Strictly was judged. I'm sure others can explain it netter than me.
Karen Hardy said on ITT lst week that the rules have changed a bit on Strictly, allowing more out of hold dancing. I'm not sure about the lifts. Strictly is moving towards AS, but half-hearted. Obviously the producers want the dances to be more "showy", without alienating the Strictly fanbase too much.
Personally I don't like that. Stick too International or go AS, not some weird mix.

Well thanks for clearing that up breppo. It's not that I don't enjoy the American Smooth (I happen to think the Colin and Erin's American Smooth was the 2nd best dance on SCD ever), but I don't want to see it in every single ballroom dance. Especially as I personally think it's a way of getting away with doing less content
