spec of mobiles
don't ask

Just a bit of idle rumination, but it is important to me

You can see all the specs of a particular mobile readily and decide which bits of technology you want on your phone .. one thing that disconcerts me is that you don't get told the colour of the menu text or the colours on your text message screens.

I chose a phone that does all I will ever need and it was an inexpensive one, the only thing is that the menus and texting screen are all in white text which is quite a strain because of my poor eyesight (even with specs on).

I am so disappointed, I only use the phone for receiving the very odd phone call but do quite a lot of texting, so this white text seems to be 'in my face' rather a lot and it is getting me down and not doing my eyes any good really.

Looks like I will have to get a different model .. I don't see any options anywhere for choosing themes or similar so can't seem to change it.

Any pointers for choosing a mobile that uses default black text? or am I talking rubbish

The text on my Wildfire is black on a white background and is very legible - don't know whether touchscreen is what you are looking for though.

I kept dismissing the touchscreen concept as was familiar with finding my way around the other technology, but recently started telling myself that I may find it better and now reckon it may be the best way for a poorly sighted person to go as the screens are larger for a start.

My son whizzes round on his touchscreen and shows me, but to be honest goes so quickly that my eyes haven't been able to take in exactly what he is doing, so haven't really sussed a touchscreen out or even held and tried to work one.

Thank you AndyGr for jogging my mind that I maybe should consider touchscreen.

What you need OP is a new display theme for your phone. The default ones can often be unsatisfactory. The first thing to do is to check if there are other themes on your phone to try. If not then depending on the make and model there maybe others which you can download from your network or handset manufacturer. Last resort is a search on the web for third party or even enthusiast creations, then there may be a tricky install process on to the phone, especially if not a smartphone. Only the most basic of phones won't have other themes, usually because it's not worth creating them.

Yes, it is a cheap phone, it doesn't have a choice of display themes on it and I have been unable to find any online, not even on its network/manufacturer site.

It was only £30 but is 3g and I can phone, sms & mms, do internet, take photos & videos and bluetooth them to my netbook, don't need any more than that really. I use the 3 network as it is the only one that works properly indoors where we live.

Am happy with 3, have been with them for 6 years now on PAYG with 2 mobiles (never had a problem so haven't needed their support).

Yes I need a phone with changeable display themes, that's it! thank you

Now all I need is to be able to afford a better phone

Good luck with your search. The one thing I have noticed in this age of the smartphone is that manufacturers are often only offering one default theme in order to allow their developer market to make money by creating new ones. Hmmm....
