I'm not a fan of opera, but I have always been aware of Joan, and I'm amazed at the lack of coverage for her.

R.I.P. Dame Joan Sutherland.

A very sad day indeed.

In my opinion Sutherland was the greatest recorded soprano of the last century.

What a legend she was. One of my favourite performances by anyone is I Know that My Redeemer Liveth sung by Joan. Not on YouTube so I can't link to it.

It's hard to explain just how good her voice was in comparison to other sopranos, it had a unique quality to it. It was so rich.

When I used to have singing lessons I used to dream that i would be recognised as the next Joan Sutherland. Never happened mind, I found nightclubs, alcohol and fags.

Her niece lived in my old complex and used to visit her regularly in Switzerland.

One of the last great prima donna's of the opera world, a true legend.

Me too, all the coverage has been of Claire Rayner. RIP Dame Joan Sutherland.

I agree. Compared to the coverage that Pavarotti got I'm shocked how little coverage this news has received.

Pavarotti was good, but over his long partnership with Joan Sutherland he was the junior partner.

La Stupenda is a legend and now that she has passed he reputation should grow even stronger and she should be rightfully crowned the best soprano of the recording age (Maria Callas ... bah!!!!)
