Hi everyone,
I have had my freesat box for nearly a year now and I have never downloaded any updates, always relying on the box to download the OTA updates.
I'm not very technically minded so I tend to leave things alone if they are working ok.
I don't really understand how to update from the Humax website using the USB memory stick thingy,as a matter of fact,I don't know what a memory stick is!!
I would be very grateful if one of you knowledgeable chaps could advise me as what to buy,(the memory stick that is),and what to do once I've got it,my new tele updates the same way to so I definitely need to wise up soon.
Thanks in advance.

The OTA updates still happen - you can be safe in the knowledge that your box will update over the air without any problem, there is no need to buy a memory stick to update your box.

For your information though, a memory stick is something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ByteStor-Spe...6910378&sr=8-1

You plug it into your computer, copy files to it, then you can plug it into other computers (or your foxsat HDR) and copy those files back off it.

Hi pegleg
If you want to check to see if your HDR is uptodate then press the menu button on the remote control and scroll down to 'system' and then across to 'diagnostics' press 'ok' and then read off the software version and loader version and they should report as 1.00.13 and U7.53 respectively.this will confirm your HDR is receiving the required updates. If this is not the case you could wait until sometimeafter the 20th of this month for the next reported update.

Thanks carvell and Gaseous,
I will be getting one of these memory stick things as most of my new equipment seems to need it for updating the system.

Gaseous,I checked my system as you said and the readings were..software version 1.00.13 but the loader version read U 7.51,last update 13th Jan 2010.

Thank you both for your help.

Thanks for that, carvell,is that the best one for me to buy or are there better ones, sorry for all the dumb questions.

No problem!

If it were me, I'd probably go for a reputable brand. Although any one will pretty much do.

I'd perhaps get this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-TS...6993123&sr=1-9

You won't go wrong with that. No fancy mechanisms or anything on it to break!
