Not sure if this is the right place to ask or not but seems the best fit for the question i have.

I'm in need of a new cordless phone and my current one that just broke has 2 handsets but when we brought them we did not realise that in order for both handsets to be able to listen to the convocation at the same time the first handset that picks up the call needs to put in a key combination to enable the other handset, this was useless and we were left quite miffed by this revelation.

Does anyone know of some cordless phones that allows 2 handsets to talk to each other as well as the caller on the line at the same time by just pick them up and pressing the answer button? Or the name of what this feature might be called?

I think a pair of Panasonic cordless phone would do what you want to do. I've had a few cordless phones over the years, most work very similar to each other but Panasonic seem to cope better and clearer if you have a noisy phone line. You can switch between hand sets when in a call easily, also can be used as an intercom.
Hope this helps

on all cordless handsets ive ever used, you need to xfer the call to another handset in order to do this. eg by pressing INT. followed by 2.

only solution I can think of is getting 2 independant cordless phones with their own base stations?

Hey, thanks for the replies.

I do not wish to just 'switch' the call from handset to handset I’m looking for 2 handsets that can pick up the same call at the same time just by answering the phone like u would by pressing 1 button.

When we moved a few years ago we had a telephone line extension upstairs split off from the main socket downstairs. We had 2 phones plugged into each socket (one up stairs, one down stairs). If the phone rang and someone upstairs answered it, if it was not for them they could yell to the person down stairs that it was for them and the person down stairs could pick up the phone downstairs and carry on with the convocation while the person upstairs put the phone back in its cradle. With our now broken cordless phone we thought that having 2 handsets would let us do this but it don’t and it seems that from what one of you was saying that all phones are like this and that the only way to have 2 phones enabled at the same time is for the first person to have to press extra buttons to enable the second handset, this is not practical when we have people in the house that have not get a clue where the Int button is let alone what it does and are of the age where they are inclined to complain about it rather then learn it, along with strong opposition to laying more wires down to add an extension like we had before we moved.

Is there no cordless phone that can do this? 2 handsets that can share the same radio wave just by answering the phone without extra input needed from the user to share?

maybe you could think about purchasing these wirless phone extension sockets and plug simple easy to use telephones into them?

I would assuse they let both handsets access the line at the same time... but it maybe worth checking with maplin before ordering!

That's why I suggested Panasonic cordless. you can pick the second handset up while in a call, and talk without having the bother of of putting a code in or transferring a call. No doubt other makes work the same way, though the other cordless phones I've had it was a right faff transferring calls to the other handset.

Yes I have a set of 4 of these Panasonic cordless phones and can confirm there's no problem at all with more than one person picking up the phone and chatting. No codes etc required.
