SPOILER: Apprentice shock exit from the show

From todays Daily mail.
Quote:
“An apprentice contestant has been forced to pull out of the programme after his soldier brother was badly injured by a bomb in Afghanistan.
Raleigh Addington, 23, quit the BBC show after being told that his older brother, Captain Ed Addington, was fighting for his life.

The graduate had already made his mark on the programme after describing last week’s reject, Dan Harris, as ‘shameful’ and ‘a bull in a china shop’ during a boardroom battle.

But that was the last time millions of viewers would see him, and his shock exit will be announced by Lord Sugar tonight.

Mr Addington said: ‘At the start of the second task, I was contacted by the producer of the programme who told me that my mother was on the emergency number and I immediately feared the worst.

‘My mind was buzzing with all kinds of emotions – had Ed been killed or injured in Afghanistan?’

Mr Addington, who was born in Swindon, discovered that his 26-year-old brother, from 2 Rifles, was clearing a route in the Sangin area to bring in food and ammunition when a roadside bomb exploded.

More from the story in the mail:-

Mr Addington said there was ‘no doubt’ in his mind as to whether he would continue with the show once he knew the extent of his brother’s injuries.

Ed was flown to hospital suffering from a collapsed lung, a brain haemorrhage and multiple fractures
He said: ‘Ed had suffered a collapsed lung, a brain haemorrhage, multiple fractures to both legs and arm as well as other injuries. He was lucky to be alive.

‘There was never any question of me staying in the show and I knew that I had to be with my parents and my two other brothers to support Ed

Can only send best wishes to the whole family and hope that his brother continues to make as full a recovery as possible.

Echoing best wishes to Captain Ed Addington and all the others

I was a bit confused as local papers and The Star had printed that his wounding happened in Dec 2009, whereas the second task was filmed at the end of Sept 2009.

However after a great deal of trawling, the dead are reported, but the many many wounded are returned in media silence, found this

Please read, in a media world that merely repeats press releases and copies copy from each other, here is a piece of real writing. It says much more than it states. It is also the only piece I could find that states that Ed Addington was wounded in September.

Also found this, again mentioning Capt. Addlington in passing, from a journo embeded in his unit as few weeks prior to his wounding.

Two pieces of quality writing before this forum and the rest of the media descend back into following the circus, egos, promoting their book and BS

Aww that sucks.
I wondered why he wasn't in any of the clips for future episodes, I didn't realize his experience was cut so short and for that reason.

It's not really a spoiler thought because it has nothing to do with anything that has happened on the show itself

One episode in and loads of people already quoting him. I think he'd be telly gold. Shame___

I really liked Raleigh so I'm sad to see him go, but it's totally understandable. I hope his brother is making good progress in his recovery, as well as the others injured. There job is not something I would be capable of doing and they really have my respect.
