Most people, almost everyone in fact, will want to make a purchase off itunes, so it is in the right place.

"tricks"? If you want a workaround I would suggest googling for it. This isn't onerous.

And all my iPods show up on the Desktop.

I use those Itunes vouchers too, I only used the credit card details for setting up the account (used my dad's ). But I always buy music and apps using the credit from the vouchers as it would drain dad's credit card otherwise
