I've had my 9200 since it came out and it's been pain pretty much since its warranty ran out. This is the 3rd time now that all the recordings have become corrupt: program names displaying incorrectly, multiple entries for one program listed, and now no recorded programs appear and there is no pause, rewind, or record function as it crashes the box.
I guess I've got to format the HD AGAIN! But... I've also been disappointed with lack of overair updates, and the fact that no matter how hard I've tried I've not been able to connect laptop to PVR.

A friend has had a Toppy for years now and can't say a bad word about it. I like the idea of all the open source apps, there's so many things they can do with their older PVRs, with no corruption issues etc.

So as you can tell, I'm rather fed up.
Was just after opinions/tips/advice re what I should do.

If your 9200T is not running the latest firmware then my advice would be to download and install that from the Humax website, then do a HDD (hard disk drive) reformat and reset to factory settings one more time and see how it goes. As I understand it the latest firmware has finally fixed the disk filing system issue which leads to disk corruption.

But that said, a Topfield 5800, suitably configured, will beat any Humax, or any other Freeview PVR, hands down. But of course it is an older non-HD (high definition) model and hard to find so perhaps you should be looking at one of the newer range of HD models from Humax or 3View or Technika (A Fetch box rebranded for Tesco) etc. I would skip the interim, upscaling Humax 9300T and Topfield 5810 models.

I would do whatever you feel most comfortable with doing. I have a Humax 9300 but I also have a BT V-Box.

These days I tend to use the 9300 as my second box just because I can't really trust the EPG since the firmware went to .23.

How can I update my firmware if I can't get my laptop to talk to the PVR?

Why not? No serial interface on the laptop or not got the right leads / adaptors or what?

Actually as I have suggested in the past this is the kind of service that an enterprising TV / AV / home computer service guy could offer to help out those without either the equipment of know how to do it themselves.

Got the cables, downloaded the software, then nothing. Just kept saying something like "trying to establish connection" and nothing ever happened. Tried all ports etc.
Is there any other way of updating the firmware? I used to have a digifusion which did it over the air.

But have you got the right kind of serial cable? You need the less common null-modem "crossover" cable.

And you must have missed out on the OTA broadcast for the 9200T earlier this year.

So is there any other way to update the firmware? I'm prepared to give it one last shot before paying out for yet another PVR.

Have you tried my flash9200 see http://www.tynecomp.co.uk/flash9200.html? The vast majority of users who have used it have been able to upgrade and at least there is a debugging capability that may allow me to offer you assistance.

Really? Have you got a reference to support that suggestion?

The number and nature of reports on various fora over the years. If it is a false impression and the bug is still there then I apologise for misleading anyone.

I also have a 8000T and it continues to work flawlessly within the limits of its single tuner (it has my original Toppy 5800 drive in it)
This was supplemented by a Toppy 5800 purely because of the remote clash situation (Best freeview pvr I ever bought).

Eventually the 8000 was relegated to the study and replaced by the 9200. Both continue to work but the Toppy is definetely 2nd choice after my Humax Foxsat-hdr.

I got myself a Foxsat for the World Cup because of the insufferable ITV SD quality on the footy and use it for the HD channels and also for sports on the SD channels which tend to look better (eg the cricket highlights on Five). But it ain't half a clunky interface to deal with compared to my slick Toppy/MyStuff set up even allowing for some of the buttons on the Foxsat remote already being a bit temperamental - still on the lookout for a new universal remote which can cope with more devices than my OFA URC 7556 (Harmonies and me do not get on).

Padzster, Martins' software ( flash9200 ) is the best software out there......I would recommend it to anybody who has a Humax...
