After being haulled round every house where a friend was down with CP as a child, and stubbornly refusing to go down with it myself, I finally sucumed at about 26 and it was hideous.

It will be such a shame if Tina has to pull out of the competition because of it i really feel for her I hope that everyone else around strictly has already had it and i wish tina all the best for a speedy recovery

All the "more mature" persons will have had it as children. It's the young ones who are more at risk.

Could be Paul and Anne in the final.

We had measles and chicken pox parties. Mind you those were the days when children went out to play and mixed freely with other children. So measles mumps german measles etc. were all dealt with before children started school.

I sympathise with your for getting struck down as an adult.

I had chicken pox as a kid, my Dad called my Spotty Moldoon for some reason and sang a song to go with it. Felt awful and was off school for ages.

My boyfriend always recalls that he had chicken pox when he was a kid and was so ill he completely missed his birthday. He's still quite bitter towards Chicken Pox as when he was better he was told "oh by the way, it was your birthday the other day, here's your presents" haha!

I feel sorry for Tina, a lot of 'childhood' illness are really much harder as an adult. I hope she has gone to her Mums or something as she'll need some TLC!

Poor Tina, of all the times to catch CP. Fingers crossed she only gets a mild dose and does have a chance of fighting it off in time for next week.

I remember when I had it as a kid. The rash was so dense you couldn't tell where one spot ended and the next began. As for when they started supparating ... well suffice to say it was horrible. Worst of all though, I got it in mid - late December just before all the fun Christmas stuff started in school and was ill all over the entire holiday.

It was a song by Peter Cook, I think.

OMG i remember that song! my dad used to sing it to me when I had CP. I had it very mildly as a child and had to cancel my birthday sleepover party as a result then I had it again as an adult very very badly, I was ill for weeks.

I had CP parties for my kids when they had it, best things really as it gets it all out of the way early. They are probably not looked upon as being very pc now, ah those were the days when we used to live life on the edge by wearing our coat by the hood, and having lead paint toys to play with

But in all seriousness I wish you well Tina........

It was indeed a song by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore
I have had c p once as a child, but shingles ( on my face) 4 times at various stages through my adulthood.
I hope Tina, who tweeted that she caught it from her daughter, has it mildly and that she can continue on the show

They also bring them to the dentist and get really huffy when I send them away! My hubby hasn't had it and I don't want the rest of the patients to get it either!!

Spotty Muldoon was a character invented on "The Goon Show".

Presumably she became aware she has it due to the rash appearing, so in theory if they came out yesterday she would've been contagious upto about 3 days before hand, so it is possible anyone to do with Strictly that hasn't had it could come down with it.

She may well be well enough to compete next week it's whether or not she can train during the week that is the question, she will also still be covered in spots next week which aint pretty if you get them all over your face!

Poor love, real great timing. Hope Jareds had it or had the jab as he will obviously have been in close contact with her.

Would you mind clarifying what you mean? Your comment sounds rather odd to me

Exactly the same with me. Neither I nor any of my siblings had it as children, but when one brother contracted it, we all came down with it despite only spending a single day - Xmas day as it happens - together.

And yes, it was hideous. Worse than the worst flu I can ever remember.

Vaccination is not routine in the UK, I gather, although health care workers usually have it, but is more common in the USA, so Jared is the most likely person to have been vaccinated, fortunately. Poor Tina, I hope she feels better soon.

Same thing happened to me Jan, apparently you can have it but not know, maybe we were the lucky ones?

Oh dear was everything Ok with your daughter-in- law as complications can arise for mother and baby?

People in my daughters office had it when she was pregnant so her doctor gave her a blood test and fortunately she was immune. Apparentely most adultrs are as they have either had it or were always immune.

Jared has been the closest to her so hope he is Ok. They don't vacinate over here routinely, do they in the States then?

My mother has never had chicken pox. Both her siblings had it at different times, she never caught it. My Dad had it when they were going out (as an adult) and she never caught it, the same applies when I had it too. The kids next door even came to our house with it and she didn't get it then either. Her doctor says it is possible to have a natural immunity to it (although very rare).

We had a parent wanting to send a child to Cub camp with CP, we said "no" and the parent wondered why we would do that with 500 other people to look after!

Poor Tina

i doubt we will ever get to see the dance she was meant to be doing this week

This is really disappointing because Jared said training was going very well. I got the impression from Jared he likes the rumba. This dance could have turned things around for this couple. I hope she has a chance to do it letter.

My father, one of ten children, avoided catching chicken pox as a child but I remember when he was struck down and was very very ill when he got shingles. He was actually so ill that he was in bed for a couple of weeks and took ages to recover.
