I used to holiday rep and people would hide all sorts just to get on a plane. Concussions, ear infections, infectious/contagious diseases... All of which during or after a flight could be lethal.

Just a note of caution - most people on here are describing childhood chickenpox. Adult chickenpox (rather than shingles) can be far more severe (as Annsyre has described). My neighbour caught it from his young children about 15 years ago and passed away 2 weeks later due to complications (pneumonia I think). Both of his children had it fairly mildly a couple of weeks previously, but he developed a severe case - very unexpected as he was a fit, healthy 40 year old. Nowadays they do prescribe anti-virals such as aciclovir but they're not a cure.
Any time I hear of an adult with this disease, I get horribly nervous. Obviously it's a rare occurrence but it's worth bearing in mind that Tina may not just have a few itchy spots for the next week - although I hope very much that's all she does have.

I had it as an adult too - off work for 4 weeks in an awful state.... it was the headaches near the end that nearly finished me off

0kay now apart from the potholes on my face

Wish Tina get well soon!

I still have a couple of dents in my forehead from chicken pox when i was 4. Horrible but I'm so glad I had it as a child as I've heard that its horrible to catch it as an adult. Poor Tina.

Unbelievable fate really.

If she does perform after this week the only positive thing is that she would undoubtedly progress no matter how she danced.

Hard to see it though.

Strictly is doomed never to go smoothly-as the number of two person finals demonstates.

They will have to ask her back next year.

You can't develop Shingles unless you had Chicken Pox first so your dad must have had it very mildly, probably as a child - children often don't feel ill and if he only had a few blisters - in his hair maybe - then it could easily have gone undetected.

My daughter actually had a few suspicious looking scabs in her hairline once. To this day I don't know for sure if she's had CP but she has been around a couple of outbreaks and not come down with it so hopefully she has.

As a poster above has said, childhood CP is usually (but not always) a mild disease but adult CP is usually rather nasty.

When i was in College some years ago i had Chicken Pox and i still went to College without knowing i even had it and no one caught it thank god, so when Tina did start her training this week she may have not known either

The "baby" is now 12 and a fine healthy girl. Janet had no ill-effects and neither did Megan (said baby). What I do wonder, though, is whether Megan is immune.

I had CP when I was 14 and that was hellish enough. Now you're telling me it's even worse when you're an adult? Gosh, poor Tina. I really hope she feels better soon.

I had it when I was 35 and it was indeed disgusting . Adults with chicken pox are also prone to encephalitis.
I had a dreadful cough too; the doctor told me that there are spots internally as well as externally and these called the cough .I coughed so much I strained my back .

Unless she has a very mild dose , she won't be dancing next week either .

Oh no! Not the dreaded "B" word. Where's that guy who supported Craig then Chris last year? If he comes on the forum and sees this all hell is going to break loose!

Get well soon Tina.

Poor Tina what a time for it to strike . I doubt she will compete next week and who knows if Jared does not succumb also. So looks like her short stay on SCD is over.
We had Jade last year having to pull out.

I had chickenpox when I was 14 and I felt awful. I felt very itchy but it was also really painful aswell. I was in tears most days because of the pain. Poor Tina

When I had chickenpox it was at the age of 9, so I completely understand Tinas situation. Bad time for it to happen now on SCD8. Hopefully she should be better by next week. In the meantime Get Better Tina.

I had CP as an adult too. I was one of the lucky ones, was poorly (flu type symptoms) for about 3 days before the rash came out, once the rash appeared, although I looked awful i felt fine. Lets hope this is the case for Tina.

If you watch the clip someone has posted reference Matt & Aliona on BBC Breakfast you will see Aliona says about not knowing whether to be worried or not as she is Jared's professional partner on the show. They also confirm Anne will be appearing btw.

So do I! It does go harder with adults though. As other posters said, above, it can take more than one to two weeks to recover. Kids seem to get over it quickly.

However, my postman caught it off his little boy and was only off a week! A hardy chap (don't know if he was wise but it was a couple of years ago and he came to no harm), it is possible that young Tina will recover in time to compete. Don't forget, they also have the very best medical treatment on these shows, doctors who will give massive doses of stuff that we don't even know about - that's how come singers can have laryngitis one minute and be singing in a couple of days. So let us wait and see.

I will miss her if she is out of the show, such a sweet girl. Shame for her partner too, his first time on the show.

CP can be nasty - and I'm pretty sure it takes more than a week to get over...

And , its highly contagous before the symptoms appear...

Thanks for everyone letting me know that, it does make sense as my Dad was a big Goon Show /Pete and Dud fan. And I'm glad it's not just him that sang it too!

My Dad also used to buy me a colouring book and pencils when I was poorly and last time I was off work I made my boyfriend get me a book and colouring pencils, really did make me feel better colouring in quietly on the sofa so I'd recommend that to Tina!

Nothing like a bit of colouring in to make you feel better! I am a great reader but remember being very ill with 'flu some years ago, in November, and the only thing I could read was the Argos catalogue. As it got near Christmas, I knew the prices of all the toys and gadgets that people were thinking of buying for their kids .

Poor old Jared - first time on Strictly and look what a hand of cards he gets!

Hope he had all the right jabs years ago - Americans tend to.

I read that he has already had chickenpox as a child so he is most likely immune. But I feel for him if Tina goes out because I don't how that will affect the rest of his stay and his pro dances with Aliona.
