we use a John Lewis panini maker

large griddle area - steady wieight pressing down, and none of this edge sealing involved

highly recommended

I use my george foreman, and it leaves this lovely griddle marks on the bread.

I prefer my panini maker to my toastie maker too - but for quickness I was amazed at the great results we got from those cheap "toast-in-the-bag" thingies. I got 2 for a pound and they can be washed and re-used up to 30 times. My cheese and ham sandwich was sticking out of the top of the bag (and the toaster) so I assumed I'd have to turn it round halfway through - but I was wrong - it toasted evenly and beautifully all over, the filling was piping hot and melted, there was no mess, no machine to get out of the cupboard and clean afterwards, and it was really quick! So I really recommend these bags.

We use George too. The element seems to be going on ours though as it isn't heating as well as it used to so in the market for a new one.

This one is a good 10-12 years old I think so lasted well.

The sealed edge ones are the only way to go if you want an egg toastie.
