I also used to have a dog called Monty. We got him from a rescue place when he was about 4. He was a big dog, possibly Newfoundland/GSD cross. He'd been kept in a small flat since a pup so was always desperate to go outside. I think he was the funniest dog I ever knew. Amongst things he regularly did:

Ate anything including he could get his paws on- inc one year the turkey crown for Xmas dinner. Cat food tins had to be put in the bin outside straight away or he'd chew them up. He also once ate a 4 pack of toilet rolls.

Would watch as a ball was thrown towards him and do nothing until it hit him. Then just look at it.

Would bang his bowl on the floor until someone fed him. Then would finish his food, walk over to my mum and cough anything stuck in his throat up over her feet.

Was the only dog in a 10 week training class who still wouldn't sit on command at the end of it.

When out being walked once, my dad sat down on a bench to have a smoke and looped the lead round his foot. Monty saw a squirrel so decided to chase it. He dragged my dad about 50ft before stopping at the bottom of the tree the squirrel went up.

Fell in any pond, anywhere. And usually couldn't get out himself.

The best bit though- Waited until being booked in at the vets for jabs, check up's etc to do the most massive stinking pile of poop just infront of the reception desk. Then always gave a little groan of pleasure as he finished off. And he always did it, no matter how long he hadn't had food for, or how many times he'd pooped previously during the day.

I know it all sounds like he was a terrible dog, but he wasn't. Most of the time he was well behaved even if he wouldn't sit. We had him for 10 years, I can't remember a week going by without him doing something that would have us all laughing about something he'd done.

A few years ago one of the cats we had (Tuppence) was not very good at catching flies. He did one day manage to catch one between his paws, and I think he was so surprised, that when he opened his paws to say 'I've got one - look', the fly took off apparently unharmed. The look on Tuppence's face was absolutely priceless.

Our other cat at the time (Penny) when she was a kitten, used to delight in deliberately falling off chair seats, and she'd also have fun in pushing herself across the carpet, (on her side) with her hind feet. Her other trick was to scoot under the bed, turn upside down and pull herself along using her claws on the underside of the bed. She really was a fun kitty to have!. She'd also flick her tail in acknowledgement if you spoke to her and she was too busy doing something else - like washing or sleeping

Amazing stories, had me in stiches.

My older cat ( Molly) is the diva, she is very particular about what she eats. She hates fish, doesn't drink from her bowl on under running tap. Whereas Mina eats ANYthing but her kitten food!
She hides behind the doors to startle you, as you come in the bedroom, then attacks your socks ( specially if they are pink!)
Now Mina who is 11 weeks, loves to go under Abaya ( long Muslim dress) as I pray and sometimes finds herself in my sleeves!!! As I prostrate.
She tries to 'attack' Molly, who in turns bullies her lol. On day, after my prayers Mina came first for a cuddle, Molly whacked her ( swear it was a slap! looool) as if she was telling her ' this is what I do, when I am done you can take your turn!)
What I love about Molly is that every time I come back in the house, she sit by the door as i open in. And that melts my heart <3

Ohh what lovely stories. Aren't animals amazing, bless em.

When I've more time I'll add a couple of my furballs activities. But I just had to post this. If you love animal stories, I implore you to read (if you've not already read it) The Cat Who Came in from the Cold by Deric Longden. You'll absolutely laugh your socks off. Bless Thermal and his little raisin.

I'll second that-it's a wonderful book, as its sequel, 'Enough to Make a Cat Laugh'.

Both my cats are adorable (of course I am biased)Colin is just so cuddly and timid and loves proper cat type play. Sim, the alpha male is just a lunatic. Lost count of all the silly things he has done over the years but one of the funniest was one Christmas when he was about a year old. I couldnt find him in any of his usual places, looked and called for an hour or so and no luck. Sat down to watch some tv and have a cuppa when I happened to glance across the room and saw his head sticking out of the christmas tree. Couldnt see his body, just this head sticking out like a decoation. When I got closer I could see he was laying across the branches fast asleep almost at the top of the tree, buried right inside Could hardly see him amongst the baubles! He did it 3 or 4 times after that but never since that year.

Don't be ridiculous! A raisin called Roger would be utterly ludicrous-nobody would believe it!

He was a sultana. And his name was Ralph.

I had an op 3 weeks ago and when got home after 4 days my oldest cat Tux was waiting on the wall outside the house for me. He danced around my feet with pleasure, followed me straight into bed under the duvet in my armpit and stayed there with me for 3 days. He only got up to eat and do his morning inspection of the garden, then straight back in. He followed me down to the loo every time and sat on the sink waiting for me. My other 2 moggies couldn't have cared less where I was and actively avoided me for a couple of days (hospital smell?) but good ol Tux (who normally loves his time outdoors)truly adores me, and I adore him

I had completely forgotten my Longden's. I have all of his fabulous books. On one page you are crying, the next laughing. The adventures of Thermal made me laugh out loud which doesn't happen very often. I must have another look and see if he has written any more recently. I bought them all before I got catified, so I will have to dig them out and read them again.

I was once eating chicken balls in batter and Grumps sat on the table to watch. I was just blowing on it to cool it down, when out shot a paw and she drew the fork towards her. I know it wasn't exactly good table manners, but it made me laugh so much I let her keep on doing it. She managed to nick quite a few before she had enough.

Lol, bless her. Deric's last book was Paws in the Proceedings. He's not been too well the last couple of years, and seems to have taken a long break now from writing. I've met him a couple of times, and he's so lovely. Aileens a gorgeous woman too. His books have brought much laughter to my house. The books he wrote about his first wife Diana, and his mom (both were televised) are a really good read too.

Whoops, seem to have gone off topic there, sorry. x

And to help keep to the genre' of the thread. the other night, just as myself and hubs were settling down in bed, Turbo (who absolutely insists on coming to bed every might) jumped up onto the bed, and settled onto my tummy. So, there I am, happily chatting away to him, asking him about his day, when he looks at me and promptly put his paw on my mouth! I mean, I know I can chat a lot, but really, there was no need for him to be so rude as to shush me!

I too have had that experience. Woke up one morning with her under the duvet, head on my arm. Started talking to her and out came the paw. Shame we can't do the same to them!

I almost took a stray cat in tonight. Somebody else claimed her though (we think the cat was a stray, there was no collar and she was very skinny apparently). She was also biting people who dared to go near her.

Mum & Dad were against taking her in because Winnie would not take to her at all.

Glad someone managed to take her in.
