Good ghost movies?

My fav two scary films are The Others and What Lies Beneath. Can anyone out there recommend other good ghost/haunted house type movies? Thanks

Ermm Paranormal Activity (don't expect it to be continuos scares like most people. This film is all about the build up)

Stephen King's "Rose Red" is pretty good from what I remember. I think it's a little over 4 hours long.

Two from the 1960s I'd highly recommend are The Haunting and The Innocents.

Another vote for The Haunting. Avoid the lame remake though.

The Devil's Backbone is good... set in an orphanage at the start of the Spanish civil war.

I'd recommend The Innocents and The Orphanage off the top of my head. The Innocents is the very best ghost story that's ever been made imho.

An American Haunting (The Bell Stone Witch) freaked me out abit - i cant remember if it was based on true life events or not.

(Donald Sutherland & Sissy Spisak leading parts)

Dozens of ghost or haunted house type movies made in the 1970's and 80's; many were made for television. There is something really atmospheric about many of them.

The Woman in Black
Don't Go to Sleep
Crowhaven Farm
Burnt Offerings

Are some of my personal favourties.

If this is the Gabriel Byrne one then avoid if you don't like gruesome films. Which I wish I had done.

I'll go for 'The Changeling' which stars George C Scott.

Agreed with this.

I prefer the first half over the second half, but it is definitely one of the better ghost movies. I think it is very underrated.

Maybe that's why it only scored 5/10 because of all the limp wristed girls who can't stand a bit of blood.

You can't have a ghost film without some pant-shittingly scary bits in it!

I agree. You hardly see her hot son in the second half.

Are we restricted to horror OP? I always find The Ghosts of Berkeley Square and The Ghost Goes West good for an old-fashioned British chuckle.
